Gabe hummed in agreement, and they sat in companionable silence.
“So,” Theo began after a while, “meet anyone who needs fixing up today?”
“What do you mean?” Gabe asked innocently, but the corners of his mouth quirked up into a small smile.
“Oh, please, you know as well as I do that you’re always looking for people, well, guys mostly, who seem like they belong together.” Theo shook his head slightly. “Then you try and fix them up. Like last week it was those guys Kris and Drew. And the week before that was the English professor and the handsome man traveling with his friends. Oh, yeah, Noel and Josh. And who was it before that?”
“Hmmm, I think that was Jack and Bart. They were on the cruise with those other two couples. I can’t help it.” Gabe sighed. “My grandmother always said I had a touch of the gift, and this is how it happens for me. I see two people, and somehow, I just know that they need to be together. So I do what I can.” He smiled, love shining through him. “After all, everyone deserves to have someone special in their lives, right? If I can help make that happen, I’m happy to do my part.”Except I can never seem to find the right guy for me. Sigh.
“Okay, I guess I understand … Well, no, I really don’t understandhowyou do it, but sure, everyone deserves love.”
“Okay.” Gabe stood, eyeing his empty glass. “We did say just one drink, so I’m off to bed. See you in the morning.”
