“Joe’s movin’ out of 3A, and I’m movin’ in. Thanks for helpin’. That musta been a box of rocks.”

Morgaine stopped pushing and snickered. She whispered something to Roz behind her hand.

“Hold on, Morgaine. I’ll be there in a minute, and I’ll help you with the furniture.”

“I can help her,” Roz said.

“Well, don’t hurt yourselves.”

She blew him a kiss.

Morgaine elbowed her. “I guess you two have made up.”

“Oh, yeah. And then some.”

Konrad used his super-acute hearing to listen in as the two women continued to talk.

“What do you mean? Are you in love?”

He didn’t detect a response from Roz, but he felt better when he heard what Morgaine said.

“Finally! It’s about time. You’ll be moving next.”

Roz said, “Huh? Why? Do you know something I don’t?”

Morgaine chuckled. “Maaaaybe.”

Konrad wanted to get upstairs before Morgaine repeated the conversation he’d had with her about it, so he ran the rest of the way to the truck and back up the stairs.

He spotted Gwyneth coming out of Joe’s place with another box.

“Why aren’t you using the elevator, Gwyneth?” Roz asked.

“Joe’s had it all tied up with his furniture. I reckon he’s done with it now, though.”

“Yeah, he was just loading his headboard into the truck.” Konrad noticed she wasn’t struggling with this load, so he punched the button for the elevator, and it whirred to life.

“Let me help you ladies with the furniture going across the hall. Can you two lift that end if I lift this one?”

“I imagine so,” Morgaine said. “Why? You don’t want to scratch the floors?”

“Do you want to give Dottie one more thing to complain about?”

“Good point.”

The three of them lifted it fairly easily. With Konrad walking backward and Morgaine and Roz on the opposite side, they managed to walk it into the only bedroom.

When they had set it down, Roz asked, “Is Chad here?”

Morgaine laughed. “He’s been chattering away, telling me where to place things. He said if Gwyneth wants to live with him, she has to make the place appealing, but not girly. I can hardly wait to see what he thinks of her flowered bedspread.” She paused. “Oh, he says he’s seen it.”

“Hey!” Morgaine stuck a fist on her hip. “That means you’ve been in our bedroom. You promised you’d stay out of there.”

Roz’s eyes widened, and she stared at Konrad.

He cleared his throat. “Uh, Morgaine, can you please ask Chad to stay out of our bedrooms too?”

She listened a moment. “He wants you to say ‘pretty please.’”
