“I know what he did to you.I’msorryIscared you—Ipromise,Iwould never hurt you like that.”

“I know you wouldn’t,”Isaid, trying to laugh but failing miserably.“Forgiveme, didIwake you up?Imust have been having a bad dream.”

“You were—Icould hear you moaning all the way in my room,” he told me.“Doyou feel okay?”

“I’m fine,”Ilied.ButIwas shivering so hardIwas practically shaking the bed.Idon’t know if it was the dream or my fear ofCarteror the need that was still inside me, unfulfilled, butIwas trembling like a leaf.

“Here, you’re shaking.”Korcame back to the side of the bed—he’d backed off whenIwas frightened.“Wouldyou let me hold you?”he asked.“Orwould you ratherIjust go back to my own bed?”

“I’d love it if you held me,”Isaid at once, not even having to think about it.

“All right—scoot over, baby.”

I loved how he’d started calling me “sweetheart” and “baby” instead of just “Vivienne.”Iscooted over for him, and he slipped into bed beside me.Hewas only wearing his boxers—he must have dried them in the dryer after we finished swimming.

“Come here,” he murmured, pulling me close to his broad chest.“Andtell me what the dream was about.”

I snuggled close to him, loving the way his broad, bare chest felt against my side.IwishedIhad a sexier nightgown on.TheoneIwas wearing now was thin white cotton with a rounded neckline and a hem that fell to my knees but it wasn’t very pretty.

Still,Kordidn’t seem to mind.Hewrapped his long, muscular arms around me and drew me close to his chest.

I gave a trembling sigh of contentment and pressed my face to the side of his neck, breathing him in.Buthis scent seemed to do something to me—beforeIknew it, my nipples were aching again, andIwas throbbing between my thighs.

I tried to ignore my discomfort asKorstroked my hair and murmured,

“Tell me about the dream,” in my ear.

“I…uh,Iforget it,”Isaid, too embarrassed to tell the truth.HowcouldIlet him knowI’dbeen dreaming of being bred by a wolf?

“Hmm, just as well,Iguess,” he said and kissed the top of my head.

“Why are you so patient and kind?”Iasked, which was somethingI’dbeen wondering about.Hewas younger than me—weren’t young people supposed to be impatient?“Imean, how do you know when to, you know, back off—like you did whenIwas so startled a minute ago?”Iasked.

“Oh, years of therapy,Iguess,” he said.“Withmy ex, you know.Shewas…hurt when she was very young and she had a lot of triggers.Ilearned to notice them and be careful.”

“You learned to be sweet,”Isaid and dared to kiss the side of his neck.Hisskin tasted like salt—Iloved it.Andsince he didn’t object,Idid it again.

Kor groaned softly asIkissed his neck, running my tongue up and down the sensitive line between his earlobe and his shoulder.

“God,Vivienne…”Hisvoice was hoarse with desire and his scent was intensifying too.

I nibbled his earlobe and then sucked it, just for the pleasure of hearing him groan again.Goddess, what was wrong with me?Whycouldn’tIleave him alone?

“I…IguessIshould stop,”Isaid at last, panting a little.“Iguess kissing you is breaking the law.”

“Actually, theUnbreakableLawsare pretty specific in what they consider to be a violation,” he rumbled.

“Oh?Andwhat do they say?”Iasked.

“That it’s wrong for anyone to breed aMoonWidow,” he said.Heturned his head to look at me.“Butkissing isn’t breeding.”

Then he leaned down and captured my mouth in a long, hungry kiss.

I moaned and kissed him back and then somehowIended up in his lap, both of us devouring each other.Iran my hands up and down his broad, bare chest, loving the silky feel of his skin.

“I was dead,”Iwhispered between kisses.“Imean,I’venever felt these…these feelings before.”

“So wasI,” he growled.“I’venever felt this strongly for anyone, ever.Idon’t understand it.”
