Skye squints his eyes, looking over her shoulder to where Gideon is frozen behind her. But he nods and points to Leo, and then Nix.

“Oh, yes. Your Leo and Nix are very bright, right?”

Skye covers his eyes once before pulling them away.

She chuckles, even when no one else does. “Do you see them bright now?”

Skye points to Nix and nods.

“Oh, I see. That makes sense. I see that, too.”

“Pretty,” Skye whispers, his voice raspy.

Nix flushes bright red, burying his face in Finn’s shoulder with a groan.

“Yes, on the outside but also the inside, right?”

Skye nods adamantly, whispering, “More.”

“Yes, he’smore. But the others? You don’t see them all the time?” She nods at Jay.

Skye shakes his head, just points at Grayson and Rosie. He makes what looks like jazz hands.

“They’re magic,” she says. “Like me, and Ignatius and Nimue, right?”

He nods, pointing to himself with a shrug.

Leo thinks he’s asking,Am I magic, too?

“I think so. Do you want to try with me?”

Skye sticks his hand out so fast, palm up, and the whole room holds its breath waiting for her to take it.

Leo

“Do you want to try it with me?” Elysia issues the invitation with a small smile curving her lips.

His little hand is out so quickly that Leo isn’t the only one to catch his breath. Leo wants to pull his little hand back and stop her from touching their boy. Stop him from using a power he shouldn’t yet have.

She doesn’t hesitate, an eager smile on her face. “May I do the same?”

Skye just shakes his hand in a hurry-up manner.

The second their hands touch, Skye glows golden-orange, with streamers of purple from the tips of his hair to the soles of his blue-socked feet. When he’d touched Gideon outside, the dusky glow had been faint—only really visible because it had been the middle of the night. But this lights up the room like a sunrise.

Elysia gasps.

It’s over in a second—tears on her cheeks, and a hand over her chest.

“My dear. Are you alright?” Ignatius murmurs, a gentle hand on her knee.

A glass of water and a plate with chocolate chip cookies appear in front of her, and Gideon slips behind the couch again.

Humming what sounds like the same cadences asthank you,Skye snags two from the plate, offering Elysia one.

“Oh, yes. Thank you, Skye.”

He pats her knee and settles back up into Jay’s chest, allowing their alpha to rub his nose on the top of his head. The scent of patchouli is strong, but it’s tinged with the sweet notes of summer neroli.
