Alex

After Savannah leaves, the rest of the day passes uneventfully. Thank God I don’t have any meetings, because I’m quite certain my frustration is written all over my face. Instead, I stay hidden in my office, dealing with my backed up inbox.

Savannah is never far from my thoughts. The smell of peaches fills my mind, all thanks to the deliciously sweet scent that went straight to my dick when I leaned in close to her in the elevator.

I have to admit, the dichotomy of office Savannah and pool Savannah is beguiling. And the fire that flashed in her eyes when she tried to set boundaries between us sent a jolt of arousal through me. She’s a green-eyed siren, calling to me with her song of seduction. I’m so distracted by my thoughts that I don’t even hear Rhonda, our head administrative assistant, calling my name until she slaps a folder on my desk.

“Earth to Alex,” she says, irritation clear in her voice. She must have been trying to get my attention for a while; patience is not her strong suit.

“Sorry, Rhonda. Did you need something?” I flash her an apologetic smile. Rhonda is not someone you want to mess with. She’s been with us since the beginning, and her rigid control of our office is mirrored in her rigid stance.

“Just your signature on these sales reports. Brayden said you would give them a look before he signs off on them.”

I flip open the folder and quickly scan the documents. It’s the monthly reports from Zeke, our manager at Fortune, which means they warrant a closer look. Even though financials are not my typical portfolio, Brayden and I agreed that we should both lay eyes on any reports coming from Fortune, at least until we figure out what’s going on. I’ve got my suspicions, and I hope to God I’m not right, but until Savannah gets us something more concrete from her analysis, we can’t do anything.

“I’ll take a look and get these back to you by the end of the day tomorrow.”

Rhonda nods, then turns on her heel and walks brusquely out of my office.

I look back at the papers in front of me. My gut tells me not to sign them. At least not until Savannah’s reviewed them. So, I buzz Brayden on our inter-office line.

“Hey, B. Can I have Savannah’s contact information? I don’t think we should sign the reports from Fortune until she’s looked at them, even if that does push us close to month-end deadlines.”

His low chuckle comes over the line. “Yeah, I’ll give it to you. But don’t think that I missed there’s something between you two.” His tone turns more serious, and I know what he’s about to say before he even says it. “Don’t fuck with her, Alex. We need her help.”

So much for thinking he didn’t notice anything earlier. I can’t lie to my best friend, or my business partner. So instead, I opt for avoidance.

“All good man, I just want her to look over the expense reports before we sign off on them.”

“Hang on.” Brayden clicks off the phone, and a second later I hear his footsteps outside my door.

He walks in and puts a piece of paper in front of me, face down, then sits in the chair opposite me and fixes me with a hard stare.

“Think with your big head, not your little one. Got it?”

“It’s not little.” I lift my eyebrows at him, but his exasperated sigh tells me he’s not joking, so I sober my tone. “Yeah, mate. I got it.”

“I’m serious, Alex. She’s not some waitress you can mess around with.”

As my business partner, Brayden may have every right to caution me against complicated things with Savannah. But even so, I can’t stop thinking about her, and the way I’m thinking about her is far from professional in nature.

After Brayden leaves my office, I sit back in my chair and stare at the paper on my desk. Savannah’s phone number, address, and email address is right there, taunting me. I spend far too long debating how best to approach things, then finally give my head a shake and open up the messaging app on my phone. Indecision is not an emotion I’m familiar with, and I don’t enjoy it.

ALEX: Savannah, this is Alex Devlin. It was a pleasure finally learning your name today.

I put my phone down and try not to think about how eager I am for her reply. This is getting ridiculous. Yet, when my phone chimes with a new message, I pick it up so fast I almost drop it in my haste.

SAVANNAH: Hello Mr. Devlin. Can I help you with something?

I see, she’s going to carry on with the ‘keep things professional’ approach, is she?

ALEX: There’s plenty you can help me with love, but this isn’t the time or place for that. When will you be starting in the office?

I might be stepping over whatever imaginary line she’s set in the sand, but in this instant, I don’t care. Now that I’ve cracked the door on flirting with Savannah at work, I want to smash it wide open. I lean back and settle in my chair, giving up all pretense of hiding how eager I am for her reply.

SAVANNAH: That’s not what I meant, and you know it. Please keep this professional Mr. Devlin.
