“Violet, will you marry me?”

Bringing my hand to my chest, I can feel the erratic beating of my heart. “Sorry, I think I’m hallucinating. Did you just ask me to marry you?”

He licks his lips. “Yes.”

I cover my mouth with my hand as he opens his palm to produce a small velvet box.

“You’re serious?”

He opens the lid, the ring inside catches the light from the lamppost beside the car—a gorgeous diamond pear cut halo ring stares back at me.

“Marry me.” He pulls the ring from the box and holds it out as I lift my left hand and pauses just above the tip of my ring finger.

“Yes, Nathan, I’ll marry you.”

“You will?” Why does he seem so surprised?

“Why wouldn’t I?”

He opens and closes his mouth but doesn’t seem to be able to form a response.

“Exactly,” I say, arching an eyebrow.

As soon as he slips the ring on my finger, I throw my arms around his neck and I cry. Never would I have believed someone could cry so many happy tears until today.

When he pulls back, he holds my gaze. “I love you,” he says, his eyes glistening with emotion.

“I love you, too, Nathan.”

I catch a tear with the pad of my thumb as they roll over his cheeks and then kiss him firmly on the lips.

“Now, take me home so my fiancé can make love to me.”

He gives me a toothy smile.

“Fuck, I like the sound of that.”

I swing my legs into the car, and I’m settled inside the vehicle. He closes my door and runs around to the driver's side as I buckle in my seatbelt.

Holding my hand up, I wiggle my finger. Once he’s pulled out of the car park and on the road, he brings my hand to his thigh, holding it to him.

“Thank you,” he says, his eyes flicking to me and then back to the road.

“For what?”

“For trusting me with your heart.”

I shake my head. “Well, how could I not, Nathan? It belongs to you.”

And it's true. I’ve only ever loved one man, and it's him. He is it for me.
