“Such as?”

“Don’t let him fuck your girl for one.”

“He isn’t going to touch her if he ever wants to play football again,” I warn. Wyatt steps back a little before a smile tugs across his face. Wyatt knows a lot about me, even the darker shit I hide from others.

“Never liked his ass anyway,” he says.

“Me either, but that doesn’t change the fact that people would notice he’s missing.”

“Tragic accidents happen all the time,” he add shrugging his shoulders.

“This is why we’re friends, Wyatt.” I smile this time. He laughs and continues to get ready for the game as I do the same.

Before everything gets started, I walk over to Colt.

“So you’re really taking her out?”

“Is that a problem?” he asks. Yeah, it’s a big fucking problem, especially if he lays a fucking hand on her. That girl is mine. She’s no one else’s but mine.

“She isn’t your type,” I remind him.

“What is my type?”

“BethAnn. Blonde, bimbo. Basically anything that will spread her legs,” I tell him, causing him to laugh.

“You’re probably right, but who’s the say that Caydence is a good girl? You know those quiet ones are always the freakiest.”

“I’m only going to say this once, Colt, and I suggest you listen to every word that comes out of my mouth. If you so much as touch her the wrong way, I will gut you. I will rip your insides out and feed them to the dogs. Do you get me?” He looks at me as if I’ve lost my mind.

“Thought there was nothing between you two?”

“There is.”

“She said there isn’t.”

“I don’t give a fuck what she said. I’m telling you she’s mine. You might take her out tonight, but rest assured, I will tear you apart if you touch her,” I nearly growl at him. Colt doesn’t take it seriously. At least not as seriously as he should. He grins at me, and I ball my fists at my sides. Wyatt must see what’s about tohappen because he chooses now to walk over and step between us.

“Let’s save it for the game,” he urges, pushing me back a little. I keep my eyes on Colt, not willing to look away.

“What the fuck is even happening?” Colt asks as if he has no idea what I just said to him.

“She’s mine, Colt.”

“Yeah? She said otherwise.”

“She’s confused,” I tell him.

“She seemed fine to me. Listen, I get that you’re used to the whole fucking female population falling at your feet because of who you are, but you’re going to have to accept that Caydence isn’t one of them.” Fury rises inside of me as I step closer, but Wyatt keeps me back just enough.

“You’re going to have to accept the fact that I’ll break both your fucking legs and you’ll never play ball again if I find out that you touched her.”

“You’re insane,” he says, pointing at me. Oh, he has no idea just how much.

“I won’t warn you again. Take her out, don’t fucking touch.”

“You’re in no position to tell me what to do, Devon.”

“I’m in every position to tell you what to do and what not to do. I mean it.” That was my last warning. I turn and walk away as Wyatt tries to calm Colt down. I know he’s pissed; hell, I would be too if someone said that to me, but that’s too bad. He isn’t laying a hand on her.

I head for the door and line up so we can get out onto the field, and as soon as we make it out, I look for her. I know she’s in the stands. I know she’s close. I can feel her. My eyes scan the crowd until I find her. She’s looking around at the other players until her eyes lock with mine.

I raise my hand and point at her, watching the way her lips part. Fuck, this girl has no idea the kind of monster she’s unleashed in me.
