Chapter 5

Devon

I barely paid attention in any of my classes today because I knew she was coming in to work tonight. I couldn’t get her out of my head. She’s ingrained in me.

Now I sit at my desk waiting for her to arrive. And as soon as I hear the elevator chime, I adjust my cock, knowing it’s her. A few seconds later, she comes into my office smiling.

“Hey,” I say as I watch her.

“Hey. Did you want to show me where I’d be working?” Where she’d be working? Fuck. I didn’t think of that. I can’t have her out there where I can’t see her. So where the hell am I going to put her?

I stand and walk around my desk, pulling out the chair across from my desk. She looks at me strangely when I motion for her to sit. Then I move to clear a spot on that side of my desk for her.

“You can put your things here,” I tell her. She looks around as if I’m joking before setting her things down. I walk back around and sit in my chair, moving the phone so that it’s closer to her.

“That’s the phone,” I say as if she can’t already see that. She nods her head. “Did you bring a book?” She nods once more and pulls out her book, showing it to me.

“I did.”

“Good. Go ahead and read,” I tell her. She again looks at me like I’ve lost my mind. I open up my computer and pretend to be doing something, anything but watching her.

Caydence begins to read her book, looking a little uncomfortable with the whole situation, but I literally have nothing for her to do. There was never a job that needed her here.

I pretend to type some more until she gets into her book. Then I take the chance to look at her. She doesn’t notice me, too lost in the words on the page. I watch her facial expressions change as she reads, wondering if she’s really into a good part.

I can’t take my eyes off her, so I don’t bother trying. I don’t think she’s noticed that I’ve stopped typing, not that I was doing something anyway.

Her lips part before she bites the bottom one between her teeth. I find myself wondering if those are the looks she will give me when she learns my dark secrets, or when she sees the gifts I have lined up for her.

She doesn’t know it, but I’m obsessed with her. I have been since the first time I laid eyes on her. I didn’t know how to get her this close to me or how to approach her without scaring her off because of who I am. She doesn’t know what I do in my spare time, and that’s going to take a little time for me to get her used to the way I do things.

But for now, this is enough. Watching her. Like I have been for a while now.

She narrows her eyes, and a small gasp escapes her lips. She must feel my eyes on her because she slowly lifts her head and locks eyes with me. She doesn’t speak, and neither do I. We just stare at each other.

Once I see her become a little uncomfortable, I lean back in my chair.

“What kind of books do you like?” I ask her, although I already know the answer to that. Dark romance. She loves it. That’s what she’s reading right now.

“Romance.”

“Just plain old romance?” I ask her. She isn’t going to tell me it’s dark, and she likes the darker things in life.

“Yeah. Just romance.”

“Hmm. I was never really into romance books, or any books for that matter,” I tell her.

“What are you into?”

“Football, as you know. Work. I also like to take care of people. I know that sounds off, but I do.” She doesn’t know I’m talking about her. That I plan on taking care of her and all that haunts her dreams in due time.

“Really? How so?”

“Let’s just say that I like to make wrong things right. Righting the mistakes of the past,” I tell her. She nods her head as if she understands, but she doesn’t. She has no idea what I’m going to do for her.

“That’s interesting.”

“It can be. What about you? Besides the books, what are you into?”
