Poor Giselle.
No wonder she was so scared.
And she probably had no idea that her fiancé and her best friend were doing the nasty behind her back.I couldn't imagine what this would do to her once she found out.
By the end of the conversation with the doctor, it was decided that Giselle should come into the hospital for a more thorough check.Just to be on the safe side. So, off the three of them went into the night, leaving me, Stefan, and Nick to care for the kids.Eve had offered to stay home and help out with the kids, but Giselle desperately wanted her friend by her side.
Gosh.
If she only knew.
“Ah, I can check my phone,” Nick said, pulling it out of his pocket. He tapped the screen and scrolled.“I'd guess five or ten minutes?”
The doctor had discharged Giselle a little while ago. They’d given her fluids, performed all the tests that needed to be done, and everything checked out fine.Which had been a big load off everyone's minds.
Dani caught our attention as she started dancing around for Theo. She sang his favorite song about a family of fish.He always tried to copy her actions, and it was so, so, so cute.He was laughing hysterically and clapping his hands.
A few minutes later, a very exhausted Giselle walked into the kitchen. Our eyes met, and she headed straight for me.“Thank you.”Her arms circled around my body.
I hugged her back.“I didn't do anything.”
She let out a small laugh and hugged me tighter.“You did everything.I don't know what we would have done if you hadn't been here.”She let me go.“I lost my mind.I swear I couldn't feel him move anymore. And it scared me so much.”
I nodded and touched her arm.“I'm glad everything turned out okay. Are you hungry?”
Dani spotted her mother and stopped dancing and singing.“Mommy!”She hightailed it up to Giselle for a touching reunion.“I woked up, and it was Auntie Frankie in bed with me.Not you!”she exclaimed excitedly. After Giselle, Carlo, and Eve left for the hospital, I lay down with Dani. She'd fallen asleep with Giselle, but hadn't woken up when her mother got out of bed.I didn't want to move her and risk waking her up.Then she'd realize her parents weren't here.
“Why did you have a doctor bisit so late at night?”
Giselle kissed her daughter and said in a completely calm voice, “The doctor's very busy.It was the only time she could see us.”
Yes, it was a lie.
But telling the truth would only worry the little girl. This was definitely the best explanation.
“Were you good for Auntie Francesca?”Carlo asked. He and Eve had walked in without me noticing.
Dani ran up to her father and jumped into his arms.“Auntie Frankie said I was the bestest big helper—” she took in a deep breath, “ever!”
Carlo tickled her and she giggled.
“Auntie Frankie?”Giselle looked at me, but Dani spoke next.
“Auntie Frankie said that Fran-schmes-ka is a goofy, hard name to say.So, she said I can call her Auntie Frankie, or Auntie Franny if I wants to.But not Chesca.”She shook her head solemnly.“Because only Uncle Stefan calls her that.”
Giselle smiled widely at me while Dani continued.“I haben't maded up my mind which one to call her yet, though.”
Eve giggled and walked up to Dani.“Thank you for being such a big helper and looking after the babies.”She touched the top of Dani’s head before she turned and wandered up to her husband.Nick opened his arms, and she melted right against him.
Ugh.
Poor Nick.
He seemed like a nice enough guy. This was really going to suck for him, too, when he found out his best friend was banging his wife.
Hmm.
Maybe Nick and Giselle could get together after the dust settled. They were already close—from what I'd seen, anyway.Hmm.That would be one way to make lemonade with all the lemons Eve and Carlo would drop on them.
