“Because I know you work just like the rest of the world and here I am pulling you out on a random Thursday morning.”

“True, but I did a lot this past week. Shit it even ran into my weekend, so I earned this. Besides, I missed you, so there was no way I was saying no. What did you get into this weekend?”

Instantly, my mind went back to the events from Friday night to Saturday morning when I left Courtland’s house yet again. I could still remember the trick he did with his tongue on my clit that had me climbing the headboard trying to run.

“The more you run, the more I’ma catch you and make you cum from trying to stop me from drinking my sweet cream. Now latch on so I can get this one, baby,” he barked as he locked his arms around my hips, pulling me back in place while I did as I was told, wrapping my legs around his neck and pushing his head down.

“Heffa, you’re still not even listening. This why I want Mickey here. Are you cool?” Hollis cut me off now, sounding genuinely concerned.

No, I miss my damn man.

“Oh, girl, I’m sorry, yes, just doing a mental checklist of everything that needs to be done today and tomorrow. I’m a bit behind schedule and Mama Steph has been fussing me out about it. What were you saying?”

“You behind schedule? We gon’ get to that, but my news first. I have some juicy ass tea,” she shrieked with excitement, practically jumping out her chair.

“Hollis, you always have gossip.” I snickered as I playfully rolled my eyes. It came with her job, and on a good day, I enjoyed hearing about the celebrity stories that keep her employed.

“No, this is hot shit. I mean, no one might ever hear about it, it’s so hush, hush.”

“Damn, l like a good secret. Spill!”

“So a very solid bird told me that Boss signed over his company and was forced into rehab.” I went still, waiting to see what all she knew. Hollis was good at getting to the bottom of a story. I mean, she left no detail or receipt behind. I swear if it wasn’t for the club having such a tight ass NDA, she would’ve known about Quincey and me holding memberships.

“Now, of course, my source didn’t want to tell me the reasons why, but I did at least leave knowing it involved my best friend and her husband. And now I’m wondering why I had to hear about it from a third party nigga, Hollis. What happened?”

I released a low breath of relief that she didn’t know shit.

“Girl, because it was nothing to tell. Things got out of hand at Roulette one day while I was there practicing with Kimmie. It was just a misunderstanding. You know Boss is like family, we don’t gossip about family and good friends. He’s sick and going for help, end of story.” I rushed my words, hoping this would drop the subject.

“Like ain’t shit, and I told you that night when he showed up with BK. That nigga ain’t my damn friend. Boss is a hating ass nigga who always got in my way. But did you hear the part about him having to sign over his company and everything? I mean, I know I’m lacking all the details, since you are keeping secrets and shit, but Q ain’t have to do that man like that, especially ifit was just a misunderstanding.”

I didn’t know he had to sign over his company though. Quincey left that part out.

Johnni, he left out all the details. He didn’t tell you anything, but it was none of your concern.

I peered over at Hollis as I huffed out my annoyance at her just stopping.

I’m starting to realize I might have a problem with waiting or people not finishing what they started.

“Well, are you going to continue running it down? Because that part I didn’t know about. As a matter of fact, my exact words to Q were to leave it alone because BK and the guys were handling it. So who took over, BK or Tino?” I asked, being mindful not to say anymore names.

“Neither, not even Art, and I get that one. But it was to an employee—well, a higher up manager named Tunk. I don’t know much about him though. He doesn’t hang out with the guys, but my source said he and Boss are just as close, like they were Navy SEALs together. I think he was his chief or something. Again, my details are fuzzy as hell. I wanted Mickey here because I know she got more details about at least him since you acting like we don’t talk about niggas now.” I chuckled as I put my eyes back on my feet, checking out the basic French tip.

Courtland was a chief; he left that part out.

That one detail Hollis said quickly stored itself in my brain because it fit him and his whole domineering demeanor.

“Girl, I told you. Boss is like family. We’re not discussing his private and very sensitive business and I don’t know Tunk. So yeah, you would for sure have to reach out to Mickey about that part.” That detail was true…well, kinda.

I got Courtland.

She kissed her teeth as she held her hand up, fanning her fingers out, examining her signature pink nails.

“Ugh, fine, since you’re no fun. Now, tell me what’s next on our agenda because I’m yours for the day.” I smiled as she got up and walked over to me just as I was sliding on my sandals.

“This was it. Now I have to go home and get ready for this party for Quincey’s nomination announcement. I love you though,” I said, hugging her tightly, praying she didn’t feelmy rapid heart beating. I was minutes from being back with Courtland and couldn’t wait.

“Oh my gosh,Courtland, this is absolutely beautiful. A whole cabin for one afternoon is a lot, baby.” I gasped as we walked into a fully decorated cabin at Blue Mountain Resort.
