“What do they want?”

Alastair shook his head.

“I dinnae ken but it can nae be good. If I had to guess, I would say they are scouting out the lands, plotting an attack.”

Cameron finished his drink in one gulp.

“Then we need to do all we can to maintain the peace. We must be cautious until my marriage to Charlotte and our alliance with the Sinclair clan is finalized.”

“Aye. I think it is time ye wrote to the lass’ father and picked a date for the wedding.”

Even as they spoke of enemies infiltrating their lands, neither of them realized one could be so close. Alec stood just outside of the study, his ear pressed against the door. He had come to tell Laird Knox about the kind of woman he was going to marry, but after hearing their plans, he rethought it. Afterall, it wasn’t just Charlotte to blame for the end of their relationship, but the Laird too. And Alec thought it would be a much sweeter end to things if he not only destroyed their marriage but the peace Laird Knox so clearly desired. All he needed to do was find a Laird willing to go to war with the Knox clan and he just so happened to know of one.
