“Good for her.” Greta looked at Matty and smiled. “You’ve got that faraway look in your eyes. Something you want to share with the class?”
Matty laughed. “I might be seeing someone. It’s early days, but yeah…I can’t say I’m not enjoying it.”
“Now I need all the details.” She linked arms with Matty and they headed through and into the bar. “Grab a seat, I’ll get us a drink, and then I want to know everything about her.”
“Oh, I don’t think I’m telling you everything.” Matty winked. “But I will say this… Tonight, I’m on a promise.”
“Hell, girl, yes you are!” Greta high-fived her. “Get a seat, I’ll be right back.”
Chapter forty-four
The bar was closed. The tables were cleared. Glasses were either washed or whirring through the huge glasswashers at either end of the bar. Greta was sweeping, Tom was wiping, and Matty had just finished restocking the mixers.
“You all done there?” Cam asked over the bar as Matty closed the fridge door.
“Yeah, just need to go down to the cellar and bring up a bottle of vodka and two gins,” Matty answered, her eyes darting to the clock showing 02:36.
"Go on, I'll sort that out." Cam smiled and leaned against the counter. "It's been busy and you guys worked your socks off. I'm going to hire a cleaning crew to come in each morning and do some of this to take the weight off your shoulders."
“Wow, that would be awesome,” Greta chimed in. She looked towards Matty. “What are you waiting for? Thought you were on a promise…”
Cam’s eyes opened wide. “Oh yeah? Well, that’s a definite early finish.”
Matty’s stomach dipped as she remembered Sloan’s text.
Sloan: Uber is booked for 3am sharp. Don’t keep me waiting.
“That’s kind, but my ride is booked for three.”
“Bugger,” Greta said. “Reminds me, though, I need to call up a taxi.”
Cam sized Matty up. “Ever been on the back of a bike?”
“A bicycle?”
Cam laughed. “Motorbike. I’ll drop you where you need to go. Greta can share your cab with Tom.”
Tom looked up at the mention of his name. “I’m alright. I only live round the corner.”
“I’ll take it,” Greta said. “Saves me a lot of waiting around.”
“Okay then,” Cam said. “I’ll be back before you leave. If not, just shut the door behind you.” She pulled a set of keys from her pocket and unclipped one. “Spare. Push it through the box when you’re done.”
Cam led the way and Matty followed. In the back room, Cam waited as Matty pulled on her coat and backpack.
“Been a long time since I’ve been on the back of a bike,” Matty admitted.
“Don’t worry,” Cam said, lifting a helmet from the shelf. “I’m an expert.” She watched Matty’s eyes drift to the helmet. “I’ve got a spare on the back of the bike.”
Relief washed over Matty, followed by an internal wince at her own naivety. Of course there would be a spare; otherwise, Cam wouldn’t have offered.
“So, where to?” Cam asked once they were outside and standing beside the powerful machine. She handed over her phone and Matty punched in the postcode to Sloan’s home. Cam studied it for a moment. “No problem.” She placed the phone into a holder so she could see the directions, then climbed on, kicked the stand up, and said, “Hop on.”
Matty took the helmet and pulled it over her head, securing the chinstrap, then swung a leg over and grabbed hold of Cam’s leather jacket.
The seam of her jeans rubbed against her clit, and when Cam started the engine, the vibration ran straight up through the seat. For one wild moment, Matty thought that might be enough to make her come.
In the middle-of-the-night silence, the bike sounded impossibly loud. Cam roared up the street, the vibrations pulsing in a rhythm that made it far too easy to imagine giving in to it. Matty didn’t dare move; to fidget would be dangerous. Cam took a bend, the bike dipping low to one side, and Matty squealed as her grip tightened.
