?If we stay just like this I think I’ll be able to eventually see her soul.

?“Mavyn?” Her lips move but almost no sound comes out. “If Ruu dies will his realm fall with him?”

?I nod.

?“Will that devil’s curse fall with them?”

?“No. The curse is etched onto my body, into my bones. I would need a new body or for someone to break the curse.”

?She’s silent for a moment, and then impossibly softer she asks, “What will happen when you kill the God of Sun?”

?Her eyes widen and I know it is because of my own. I know it is because that ring of silver and black is visible. I know it is because the black begins bleeding into the red.

?“I don’t know,” I answer honestly. “Perhaps another war. Maybe nothing will happen.”

?But that’s optimism at its finest.

?She hums and then closes her eyes. “Let’s make a rule we’re not allowed to talk about war until at least after the sun has risen.”

?I choke on a laugh and then squeeze my lips together to try and stay quiet so I don’t wake Asher up again. But then Jullia starts giggling and then something gets thrown at us which has us laughing louder.

?Eventually we quiet and Jullia grabs the pillow Asher threw at us to throw on the floor. She wiggles closer to me and with a soft sigh falls asleep. Shutting my own eyes, I listen to Jullia’s heart and match mine to hers. An even tempo.

?Ba bum.

?Ba bum.

?Ba bum.

Twenty-Eight

Mavyn – Decim 17

Lasairorm is strangling me as I finish the end of my French braid and tie it off. I throw it over my shoulder and it hits my bare legs. I’m still debating whether I want to cut it or not. The last time I did was when I chopped it to my chin after killing the devil. It’s been growing ever since.

?Jullia yawns as she stuffs her backpack and right on time, Asher knocks on the door. I sit to finally pull my thigh highs on and Jullia waits until I’m fully covered before opening the door.

?Asher is yawning as he leans against the frame and as soon as he sees me he glares. “If you get put under my lead I’m making you run extra laps today, Tsuki.”

?I roll my eyes and automatically look beside him waiting to see Callahan. Except my golden devil is not there.

?“He’s meeting us in the cafeteria,” Asher answers for me. “He got pulled with a few others to meet the trainers they’re recruiting to help out.”

?Jullia bounces on her toes as I stand and grab my bag.

?“Isn’t is so exciting!” she beams as we leave the room. She curls her arm around mine and leaves Asher to follow us. “Finally! After you started training with Kyno I’ve been forcing Hanna to spar with me because she won’t go easy on me like Asher will and I’ve been itching to start training again.”

?I hum and smile. Happy that she’s excited and a bit excited myself. To Asher I ask, “Are there ranks and tiers for people who have prior experience?”

?“Sure, but only Asier and D’etre can move you. Depending on the feel of your aura and what race you are they’ll face you against someone and depending on how you do you’ll get put in a rank.”

?Jullia makes a sly face at me. “What if they’ve already seen you fight?”

?“Then they may already have a rank for you, but they’ll make you fight anyway.”

?“Fighting with magic or no magic?” I ask.

?We make it to the ground level and Ricka isn’t at her desk so we just leave. A thick blanket of clouds covers the sky as we step out of the dorm. We’ll probably meet her and the shifter for dinner like we’ve been doing.
