“Mrs. Tandy, your assistance is welcomed. Looking for a woman of sound health, domestic skills, and able to withstand the Texas summer. Awaiting your recommendations.”
Sealing the letter, Seth couldn’t help but feel a flicker of curiosity about the woman Mrs. Tandy might send his way. It was a strange sensation, almost like the anticipation before a successful harvest. He shook it off and set the envelope aside to take into town to post the following day. He’d probably send Jack. For some reason, the fool did seem to like going to town.
“Let’s see what you’ve got, Mrs. Tandy,” he said quietly.

TWO WEEKS LATER, SETHreceived another letter from Mrs. Tandy.
“Dear Mr. Clinkinbeard,” he read aloud, “I am pleased to inform you that a group of respectable young ladies will soon be arriving in Texas from the East Coast. They are eager to meet gentlemen such as yourself with the prospect of matrimonial union.”
Seth’s eyes flicked over the words, each sentence fueling a spark of curiosity he hadn’t known was there. Would one of these girls hold the sturdy qualities he sought?
