“She can be a bit of a bully. She’s a Dreamer. And apparently, she’s also a Cursor.”

My eyes grew wide. “A Cursor?”

“Well, I’m not sure it’s been proven, but apparently she cursed Molly Sanders, and Jenna McIntyre.”

We were walking through the tube but I couldn’t care less about the scenery this time. “What did she do?”

Alicia smiled, a devilish grin. “Well, Molly lost her hair, it was falling out in clumps. And Jenna… apparently she told her she could make her fat, and Jenna just laughed, thinking she was crazy. But the next week, she couldn’t fit into her skirts.”

“No way.”

“Yes way. You don’t want to mess with Brianna.”

I sighed. “I won’t.”

“Just stay away from Ace.”

I was officially curious. “Why?”

“Brianna’s in love with Ace. Everyone knows that. And she hates any girl who goes out with him.”

“Oh…” Well, that explained why she’d warned me about him. I wondered if what she’d said was a lie, to keep me away from him.

“I’m not sure what happened,” Alicia went on. “They used to go out, but now he doesn’t talk to her much.”

There was a lot of drama at RAMS. The students might have been gifted with special powers, but they were just like everyone else; vulnerable to normal emotions like jealousy, competition, anger, and low self-esteem. I realized that Freak Academy was really just like any other high school.

We made our way to the elevator. “So…” I started, a little nervous. “That Leo guy is pretty cool… that fire show was awesome.”

She perked up. “I know, right, he’s amazing.”

I smirked. “He must be popular with the ladies.” Seriously, I was being so obvious. I might as well have had a sticker on my head: I HEART LEO.

She turned to me with a confused look. “He doesn’t really date. He had a girlfriend a year or two ago but no one since. He just hangs out with his buddy, Trevor. Who knows… maybe he likes boys.”

“No, definitely does not like boys.”

She cocked a brow. “How would you know?”

“I just know.”

“Oh yes… I forgot. You can read people. So I’m dying to know… what’s on mysterious Leo’s mind?”

“Well, I haven’t really met him so I can’t really—”

She bounced up on her feet – her shiny new Nikes looked comfy. “I should totally introduce you two. He’s a good friend. He’s cool.”

“Oh… yeah, I’d like that, I guess.” I was trying to appear aloof, but probably miserably failing.

“You can get close to him, and tell me everything he’s thinking.”

Uh-oh. “Um… do you like him?”

She shook her head. “Oh no… he’s just so mysterious. He’s way too intense… always brooding and stuff. Seems like he’s got some issues. I don’t like drama.”

“Oh…” I was surprised. I wanted to know more.

“Leo’s got some mad skills though,” she went on as we walked down the hall to our room. “He’s one of Simone’s pets.”
