You mean the chair that’s been in the samespot for years?
Jett
Well, if you didn’t keep it piled high with clothes, I would’ve seen it.
I smile at the memory of Jett tripping, and in my haste to right the chair from toppling over, I hit the remote, which started the movie…the movie that wasn’t on mute. My dad came rushing into my bedroom, clad in boxer briefs, bewildered at the sight before him.
Jett
And it wasn’t clothes, it was blankets we used in the back of my truck.
My heart stutters. I can’t believe he remembers something that small.
And at this moment, it doesn’t feel like ten years have passed by. It feels like we’re still those stupid teenagers, the ones sneaking around in the dark, trying not to wake our parents.
Jett
What are you doing right now?
Watching Daisy Jones and the Six…
Jett
Ahh…I knew you’d like that show.
You’ve seen it?
Jett
Caught an episode with Saylor. Should I be concerned about how many times you’ve seen it?
Only if you become a broody rock star with commitment issues.
Jett
Good thing my fear of commitment has long passed.
My chest tightens, and I don’t respond right away.
What are we doing? Flirty and carrying on like old times. It’s been a trying week, and a part of me worries if we’re in this space–flirting and getting to know each other.
But I shut down any doubts.
I want this. Jett. Us. Exploring what we used to have, but getting to know who we are today.
So I should be worried you’re going to become a broody rock star?
Jett
More like a broody farmer.
Rumor is, you smile more.
Jett
You’ve got to stay off The Bay Buzz.
Don’t even get me started.
