“That is pretty damn good.” Mateo licked the sugar from his lips.

“Definitely going to need to grab another before we leave.” The two of us passed it back and forth, finishing it within a few bites. Mateo threw the wrapper away and laced his hand through mine.

“Poutine next?”

“Yes, please.”

For the next half hour, the two of us wandered the food stalls, trying all kinds of food until we were too full to take another bite. The sun peeked through the clouds, fighting the chill in the air as we walked.

Hand in hand, we followed the sidewalk that ran parallel along the river, Niagara up ahead. Big green trees and bright flowers lined both sides, thriving off the constant mist and rain this place got. Even under a blanket of clouds, it felt quiet. Peaceful.

Mateo bumped his shoulder into mine, breaking the calm with a grin. “You know what I could go for right now?”

I glanced up at him again. “Don’t start this again.”

“A Snickers,” he said easily.

“I truly can’t believe you think a Snickers is better than a Reese’s,” I said, still appalled.

“It is. It has chocolate, caramel, and nuts. What more could you want?

“Reese’s has all of that but the caramel!”

“It doesn’t have nuts.”

I looked up at him, completely flabbergasted. “Uh, yes, it does. Peanut butter…that’s nuts.”

“It’s not the same.” Mateo waved me off.

I came to a stop, removing my hand from his to place them on my hips, glaring up at him.

“This is coming from the guy who won’t eat the red and orange skittles, but will eat the others. They all taste the same!”

Mateo gave a cry of fake outrage. “Everyone knows the red and orange taste like shit!”

I narrowed my eyes. “They taste delicious.”

“Pure blasphemy.”

This had to be the most random, chaotic argument ever…but I was having a blast. Who knew arguing over nothing could be so fun.

“You’re sexy when you argue with me.”

My lips twitched, threatening to give away my false anger. “And you have horrible taste in candy bars,” I shot back.

“Oh, yes, talk dirty to me some more.”

That did it. The laughter I held back burst free until I was a giggling mess.

“You’re such a menace.”

Mateo smirked. “And you love it.”

“We may be down by four points, but there’s still plenty of time on the clock,” Coach said from within the huddle after calling a timeout. He was practically shouting to be heard over the screaming of fans in the stadium.
