“Mina, my name is Koa, and this guy is Jon.We’re here to help you.”
That made her pause and turn her attention toward them.“How...?”
“Blake called us.He was very concerned for you.”
Her breath released in a sigh, and the tension in her shoulders eased a bit.Oh, thank God.Blake had been the friendly bartender. He’d tried to get her away from the man who had grabbed her.
“Can you help me find my dad?”she asked.
Koa wrapped an arm around her waist.“How about we go sit and get comfortable?”
“You won’t try to take my clothes off, will you?”
Jon snorted and then laughed.“As much as I’d like just that, I don’t want to scare you any more than you already are.”
Her shoulders relaxed a bit, and she quit frantically looking over her shoulder. For some reason, they both settled her down and made her calm.Even though one held onto her arm and steered her toward a corner with a sofa and a large chair, and the other’s hand sat low on her back, she didn’t feel threatened.
She tensed again as they pulled her down on the sofa with one man on her side, and the other pulled up and sat on the sofa table in front of her, bracketing her legs with his.The one called Jon sat in front of her and laid a hand on her knee. She could feel the heat of his hand through the thin fabric of her skirt.
“Why don’t you tell us why you’re here?”
Mina looked from one to the other, bit down on her bottom lip, and fisted her hands in her lap.“I’m looking for my dad...”
“Start from the very beginning, pet.How did you come to be here?”Koa asked.
“I received a note and a ticket and was told to come here.I guess it’s a special thing because Stacy at the desk called it a golden ticket.”
Jon’s eyebrows rose.
A frown puckered between Koa’s brows.“All right, go on.”
“It was from my father.”
Jon glanced at Koa.“Like your real father?”
“Well, yes.He’s not my stepfather.”
Koa grunted and controlled the smile that pulled at his lips.“Your father asked you to meet him here? The TSC?”
She looked at Koa, confused.
“TSC stands for The Sanctuary Club.”
She nodded.“Yes, he even gave me directions.”
The guys shared another look.
“Why did you have to meet him?”Jon asked.
“I haven’t seen him in over five years.”
Koa frowned.“Why?”
She froze. She could feel a blush overtake her face.“We lost my mom a while ago.My dad was very heartbroken. He loved her very much.I look like her, and he says it’s hard to be around me because of that.”
Jon smiled.“She must have been very beautiful.”
“She was.Besides the hair and eyes, I don’t think we look a lot alike.I think it’s an excuse for my father to stay away from me.”
