“Then you vanished and didn’t come home,” he complains icily, moving towards me.

“I was catching up with my family.”

“Bullshit. You were scared.”

“I’m not scared of you Onyx, you may claim to be all dark and broken but?—”

“But what Amelie?” he challenges, coming to a standstill in front of me. He’s so close I can feel his breath against my skin.

“Now that we’ve said I love you, I can’t lose you.”

“You won’t.”

“You can’t promise that. I know what you want to do within The Order and that comes with risks. Soyoudon’t scare me, butlosingyou does.”

“I should scare you,” he murmurs, running his hand around my neck. “I hurt those I love…look at Slate.”

“You’re wrong,” I whisper. “You saved him every single day. You kept him alive so I got to meet him. Our love is because of you.”

His grip tightens around my neck. I can still breathe so I know he’s going easy on me, testing the waters. No doubt he’ll start pushing boundaries soon.

I’m instantly transported back to my first term here when he squeezed my leg under the table in the library and his nails broke through my skin. When he cornered me in the bedroom and his grip around my wrist was a bruising iron manacle. When, with just one word, he was able to get Slate to choke me to the point I almost blacked out. I remember how cold his eyes were, the total opposite of what they are now, and I wonder if there was some heated truth in his words that he wanted to havea little funwith me.

“Do your worst, On,” I gasp.Bring it. “I won’t love you any less. Show me the pain that runs through your veins.”

He pushes my body back roughly until I hit a wall, and stares deep into my eyes, and I nod.

“Do your worst,” I repeat in a whisper, pushing my neck against his hands.

A dangerous smile tugs at his lips, but I’m not afraid. How can I be when his eyes blaze with love for me, for the gift I’m offering him? No, I’m not shaking in fear under his hold. I’m trembling with excitement. Arousal.

I clench my thighs together. This is about to get fun. I love the guys, but they’re all so damn gentle with me. I want to be manhandled. I once came just from Sawyer choking me in Monty’s kitchen and I think I freaked him out so much that he’s never really attempted it again. Well, not that roughly anyway.

I push against his body, hard, so that he stumbles back and knocks into a small side table. A stupidly placed vase wobbles, tips, and smashes to the ground. Neither of us seem to care.

His head whips to me and a sinister smirk plays on his lips.

“Make no bones about it, Amelie, if we’re doing this – and you don’t run away screaming afterwards – you’re mine. I might tolerate sharing you with them, but you’ll belong to me. I’m going to find that black spot you think taints your soul, and I’m going to coax and nurture it into something beautifully dark that belongs to me. That answers only to me.”

I quake at his promise, knowing he means every word. Onyx has always been the most possessive, the least compromising, but I can’t show him his words both thrill and terrify me in equal measure.

“You speak a big game for someone who’s done nothing,” I scoff to hide my nerves.

“Yet. Let’s rectify that, princess.”

I blink and Onyx has marched forward, grabbed me, and tossed me onto the bed where I bounce several times on the mattress before settling. I bite back a nervous giggle but Onyxnotices and growls at me, his already dark eyes morphing to black.

“Laugh it up, baby. We’ll see who’s still laughing later.”

My amusement dies the second Onyx pulls a knife, and I swear my heart stutters to a standstill. The room freezes, even the particles dancing in the low lamp light seem suspended in the air while I wait for Onyx’s next move.

“The power suit is cute,” he deadpans, sounding less than amused as he taps the tip of the lethal-looking blade against his pointer finger. I mean, I’m not stupid, I knowallknives can be lethal in the right hands, but this blade…the way it flashes so brightly even in the dimness of the room…it makes the blood thunder in my ears.

“W-what are you doing?” I ask, trying hard to keep my voice from shaking.

“You don’t need your clothes on for what I have in mind Amelie.”

“Do you want me to remove them?” I smirk.
