“He will. He’s not our grandfather, I promise.”

“Okay. I may not trust him, but I do trust you.”

“Now, is there anything else on your beautiful, shrewd mind, or are you ready for dessert?”

“You brought dessert?” I ask, lighting up.

“Made it myself.”

I raise my brow this time and Sawyer chuckles. “Okay, okay, I made it to the shop in time to buy it myself.”

I laugh and close the distance between us so that I can kiss him.

“I love you,” I tell him simply but meaning it with all my heart. He grins at me. “What?”

“Thought you’d never say it.” He shakes his head but his eyes are sparkling.

“What?”

“I’ve said it twice now and you’ve blanked me both times.”

“You have?”

“Just a moment ago, I said I love teaching but I love you more. You never said anything.”

“I figured you didn’t mean it like that. Kalen says he loves people with every other breath.”

“I’m not my brother. And the first time I said it was?—”

“When we were in bed together. I thought I dreamed that.”

“I thought you were asleep.”

“Which is why I won’t hold you to it.”

“Amelie Luna Rossi,” he says. I smirk at him.

“Just because I whispered it to you when you were sleeping, does not make it any less true. So I’ll say it again. I love you. You’re my unbreakable diamond, you astonish and astound me every single day, and I’m beyond proud of the woman you’re becoming.”

“I’myours, huh?” I tease.

“That’s all you took from that?”

“Blah, blah, blah, something about being a proud dad…”

“I’ll give you a proud dad!” Sawyer huffs, rolling on top of me and tickling me until I’m wheezing for breath and unable to see straight from the tears of laughter streaming down my face.

“Please! Please, stop!”

“Only if you say it again.” Sawyer grins at me through my tears.

“What? You’re like a proud d—ahhh! Stop!” I scream and wriggle under him until he lets up again. “I love you, okay?! I love you!”

“Again.”

“I love you, Sawyer.”

“That’s better.”
