“What did you do?” I ask Kalen.
“I’ve been talking to Aadi?”
“You what?”
“We are brothers after all.”
“He isn’t your brother, Kalen.”
“Semantics.”
Onyx looks about ready to pounce.
“Fine. I had one of the computer nerds link Onyx’s number to a sex chat line, now he gets horny dudes calling and texting him.”
I laugh; it’s what I did to Aadi last year before I came here. He couldn’t work out why he kept getting dick pics for days.
“Amelie, care to move aside so I can kill him now?” I nod my head yes but Kalen just picks me up like a damn rag doll, throws me over his shoulder and takes off. I try to wave at Elsie but I need my hands to hold on to Kalen so I don't fall to the floor.
I scream as we run down the hallway. With Onyx hot on our tail and Jasper following behind at a slower pace.
A few things happen so quickly I can’t register what is going on: Kalen is falling; I’m being hauled sideways; I’m placed on my feet. Blinking a few times to clear my vision I soon realise that I don’t really recognise the guys standing in front of me.
“Are you okay?” One of them asks and I nod, confused.
“What the fuck are you doing? Step away from her now,” Onyx barks as Jasper grabs the guy closest to me and has him pinned to the floor in seconds.
“We were helping her,” a second guy whispers. “We um know who she is and she was screaming.”
It all clicks into place. These guys are in The Order. Kalen comes in closer to me. “Let them go,” he says to Jasper, beforeturning to look at the guy pressed against the floor. "Corbin, you don’t need to protect her from me.”
“With all due respect, we were told to always protect her no matter what. Every recruit had a meeting last night to update us on our responsibilities when it comes to her.”
“What is going on here?”
We all turn to Sawyer who’s standing with his arms crossed, waiting for an explanation. I love it when he pulls the authority card, it does things to me. I clench my thighs and I know he can tell what just happened. A smirk pulls at his lips.
Memories of last night also don’t help.
When no one answers, Sawyer shakes his head. Even though he isn’t a teacher here, he still has that authority vibe.
“Miss Rossi, a word…please.”
I nod and walk towards Sawyer. Onyx’s phone pings and his face drops as he opens the message. Kalen laughs like a hyena and takes off running once more.
“What’s that all about?” Sawyer asks as we walk side by side.
“Kalen put Onyx’s phone number on a gay sex chat site. I’m presuming he just received a dick pic.”
Sawyer chuckles. “How did it go this morning with Adrianne?”
Adrianne is the girl I went to see.
“Better than I expected actually, but she knows Kalen somehow and didn’t seem overly happy about hearing his name.”
“He didn’t tell any of us about her until he threw the folder down. Knowing Kalen, he did something messed up and is trying to make it better. He might tell you, if you ask.”
“Maybe… Anyway, you wanted to talk to me?”
