What am I supposed to say to her?

I want you to continue your life in London with me, making me breakfast and going to the stadium with me.Having dinner with Harriet. Cheer for me, wearing your jerseys, and go back home together afterward.

I know that life would bore Lily. She likes adventures, travelling, and exploring new things, and I’m afraid that a life with me in London wouldn’t be enough for her.

I couldn’t live with myself if that were the case, and she gave up her dreams for me.

So for now, that weight is pushed as far down as possible, whilst I tell myself to enjoy the time we still have.

Chapter 28

Lily

I have my arms around Jessica, squeezing her as my life depends on it, as Luke is finishing the last lap of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Just a few more turns, and he’ll be the new world champion.

A childhood dream is becoming a reality.

When he crosses the finish line, fireworks erupt into the sky, and the cheers in the BMW garage go crazy.

Half of the engineers are hanging on the barricades, cheering Luke on as he crosses the line.

The tears streaming down my cheeks match Jessica’s, who is an even bigger mess than I am.

“He did it,” she whispers, the pride in her eyes evident before we exchange another hug.

Then the whole family exchanges embraces, emotions running high.

I’m grateful we’re able to experience this together, being here on the most important day in Luke’s career.

He’s worked for this moment his whole life, and now it’s here.

I watch the screens as Luke takes a victory lap around the track, waving to the fans and soaking up the atmosphere.

I feel Sebastian’s arms around my stomach before he lays his head on my shoulder as I lean back into him.

“Can you believe it?” I ask, pride swelling in my chest at seeing Luke and the support he’s receiving.

He’s been the golden boy, the one everyone expected to win this whole season.

But Formula 1 is filled with rivalry and unpredictable turns at every corner.

You never know what can happen.

He’s had his challenges, but he pushed through and proved himself once and for all.

“Yeah,” Sebastian murmurs in my ear, and when I turn to look at him, I see the emotion in his eyes as well.

“Sebby, are you crying?” I ask, unable to contain my teasing.

He scoffs and mutters an “of course not”, but his smile tells me otherwise.

He knows he’s full of shit.

Sebastian has known Luke almost as long as I have; they’ve been there for each other their whole life.

No wonder he’s feeling emotional, just like the rest of us.
