Trevor edges in impossibly closer before he realizes what he’s doing. Skyler’s exhales caress his cheek. “But Idid,” he whispers, almost afraid if he speaks any louder something will break. Maybe his heart.

Because he assumed Skyler was happier without him.

He had no idea Skyler was holding on as hard as he was.

Skyler smiles gently and says, “Yeah. You did.” He reaches for Trevor’s hand where it’s pressed between their chests and takes the ring from his fingers. Trevor lets out an involuntary whimper, but then Skyler slides it onto Trevor’s pinkie. “So it’s not such a painful reminder anymore. Now it can represent how I’m the luckiest idiot in the world.”

He should say something. Tell Skyler he’s not an idiot. Tell him how he felt all those same things while they weren’t together. But he doesn’t, because he’s overwhelmed, and he’s pretty sure Skyler already knows anyway.

When Skyler kisses him, that’s overwhelming too, but in a way Trevor loves. In a way he knows what to do with. He brings both of his hands into Skyler’s hair, crooking his pinkie carefully so as not to let the ring slip off. His fingers scratch and tangle and tug, and Skyler lets out the sweetest little noises into his mouth.

Trevor wants more. He always wants more with this man. But it doesn’t scare him so much now that he knows he can have it. He swings a leg over Skyler’s hip and climbs on top of him. Then he nips Skyler’s jaw playfully and tells him, “I want to go again.”

Skyler laughs. “I’m not a teenager anymore. You’ll have to give me a little more time to get it back up.”

“Okay, guess I’ll have to find some way to occupy myself while I wait.”

He shoots Skyler an innocent smile and shoves the covers off them before sliding down Skyler’s body until he’s over his legs. He fixes his gaze on Skyler’s right hip, where a tattoo of a snake wraps around it. It’s a newer piece, and Trevor wants to become as familiar with it as he is with the others, so he traces his tongue from the head to the tail. Then he presses his lips there. He sucks and nibbles on the skin gently but with persistence, intent on leaving his own mark.

Skyler’s fingers curl around his shoulder, pressing in deep.

After he’s satisfied with his work on Skyler’s hip bone, he moves farther down, kissing a path until he reaches his inner thigh. He pulls Skyler’s leg to the side, giving himself more room, then bites down hard, making Skyler’s back arch off the bed.

Looking up, Trevor grins when he finds Skyler’s eyes are already starting to glaze over. “I’ll be down here until you’re ready,” he tells him.

“Fuuuuck,” Skyler breathes out.

After they eventually makeit out of bed, Skyler has changed into black shorts that hug his thighs and a T-shirt with a graphic of a strawberry that sayspick me. Trevor thinks if it were anyone else, his T-shirt collection might be embarrassing, but because it’s Skyler, it’s somehow cute. Although Trevor’s obviously biased.

Curled up in a chair, Trevor’s still a bit lost in a post-sex haze but trying to focus on what Skyler’s doing rather than how cute he looks. He promised to help Skyler finalize his acoustic set. And it means a lot to him that Skyler cares about his opinion on this stuff after all this time. After Skyler’s musical and performance skills have far surpassed his own.

Skyler’s on the couch playing guitar, and Trevor’s eyes widen in recognition when he begins strumming the chords of a familiar song.Trevor’ssong. “Haunted.”

Lying here, half the bed is empty

But I roll over and pretend your body’s under mine

My fingertips skim your hips, and I lean down to kiss your lips

Then the spell is broken, and I realize

You just can’t hold on to a ghost

And I’m haunted

Haunted by the thought of you

I wanted

Something too good to be true

My nights are

Cold, lonely, and blue

Haunted by the ghost of you

Trevor’s not entirely sure what his face is doing as he listens to Skyler sing the painful words with such raw emotion, but he’s on the verge of losing it and it must show.
