He looks up at me, his skin paling. “That’s not Leon.”

Fuck.

CHAPTER 15

Rue

“What doyou mean it’s not Leon?”

“It’s not. That’s Blake. He works with Leon and kind of looks like him, but yeah, that’s not him.” All the excitement drains away. I thought this nightmare was over, but it’s not.

“He looked like Leon in the dark,” Carnage says, clearly pissed. His words are tight and when I glance at him, his jaw is twitching. “I’m gonna fuck him up.”

I catch him holding his right hand and rubbing it. It’s bloodied, but I can’t tell whether it’s his or someone else’s.

“Let’s get you cleaned up.”

“You don’t have to take care of me,” he says, his voice monotone. “I’m going out again until I find this fucker.”

“That doesn’t make sense.”

He looks at me.

“You don’t know where he’s at.” I swallow hard, plopping down on the couch. “But I might. The house.”

“What’s the address?” Whisper asks, just as tense as Carnage.

“I don’t know. I know how to get there from Redlight, but I never saw any street signs and there wasn’t a house number anywhere. I could take you there.”

“No,” Carnage says, sitting on the couch next to me. “Absolutely not.”

“It’s the only way, Carn.”

“Well, it’s not fucking happening. We’ll find him somewhere else. We’ll go to Redlight and burn the fucking place down, I don’t give a fuck, but you are not going anywhere near that man. You hear me?”

Oh, I hear him, and so does my dick. Apparently, Carnage’s version of dominance totally works for me. That should probably be concerning, but I’ll analyze it later.

I climb onto his lap, draping my arms over his shoulders. His expression softens slightly.

“Don’t bat those lashes at me. I’m not caving on this.”

“Didn’t ask you to.” Pressing my forehead to his, I let his closeness soothe me. I was a nervous wreck the entire time he was gone and it feels so good to have him back again. “Let me take care of you tonight. Tomorrow you can make a new plan.”

Carnage pulls back and searches my eyes for a few heavy moments before leaning in and kissing me softly. “Okay.”

“Okay.”

After saying goodnight to everyone, I take Carnage by the hand and lead him upstairs. I can feel the tension he still carries, but hopefully a hot shower and some good cuddles will help.

Or maybe…

I bet sex is a great stress reliever and distraction.

That’s settled, then. I’m going to seduce him.

In his bedroom, I help him out of his clothes while he gazes at me with a serene expression.

“I’m sorry I failed tonight. I’ll keep you safe.”
