Holy shit, it was amazing.
I closed my eyes, swallowed, and forced myself to put on a neutral expression before facing his expectant look.
“Well?” he asked, looking a little nervous for my verdict.
“It’s just meh,” I lied shamelessly. But hey, I was pissed, so I had the right to rain on his parade a little. “It’s not bad but definitely not the best lobster I’ve ever had.”
Lies, lies, and more lies. Itwasthe best lobster I’d ever tasted, as far as I could remember. Hell, it was the best food I’d ever eaten in my entire life. But I’d rather die than tell him that.
But even though I wanted my words to sting, he just nodded and took me seriously.
“So I need to work on the taste? Is it too salty, or too acidic? Maybe I overcooked it.”
God. When did Konflict get so damn cute? It was unreal. Part of me wanted to comfort him, because honestly, his food tasted like something from a five-star restaurant. But then I remembered, just last month, he was fucking me at night and threatening to kill me during the day. Compared to that, this was nothing.
“Where’d you learn to cook?” I asked, just to avoid lying any further.
“At home, with my mother. When I was a kid, she tried to keep me away from the family business because she knew what it meant. Even though being the Korven heir was my fate, she encouraged me to try other things. For a while I wanted to be achef, then an artisan, then a musician. I ended up in engineering, which worked for the family empire. I guess you can’t really escape your destiny. But I was lucky to explore a lot, and some of those things stuck. Cooking is still how I unwind when life gets to be too much.”
I listened and realized I didn’t really know him. Maybe if I’d seen this side before, I’d have fallen even harder. There was something about his mix of charm and roughness that got to me.Fuck!I needed to cool off. My pussy was screaming, and it was way too loud.
“Okay… I have to admit, I’m surprised. I’ve never seen this side of you before.”
“I know. Nobody knows this part of my life. Not even Krash or D, and they’ve known me since I was a kid.”
I just shrugged and kept eating, doing my best to keep conversation to a minimum, because I really didn’t want to think he was adorable. Even though, honestly, he was fucking adorable.
Fucking fuck!
“What’s your favorite food?” Konflict asked, clearly refusing to let silence settle between us.
I looked up at him, studying his face. “Why?”
“So I can make it for you. In case you forgot, I need to rack up some points to keep my wife. I heard the way to the heart is through the stomach. I want to try that route.”
“It’s pointless,” I answered flatly, trying to hide how fast my heart was pounding.
“Pointless because you’re already in love with me?”
I glared at him, furious. He was getting on my nerves.
“No, because you’re wasting your time.”
“Good thing I’ve got plenty of time to waste. So?”
“I don’t want to tell you.”
He wouldn’t let it go. “I’ll just guess, then. You like poultry—roast chicken, turkey, or duck with honey and balsamic sauce.”
I looked at him, half-annoyed, half-impressed by how specific he was. If I’d ever doubted he liked cooking, there was no way now. Plus, the way he described those dishes actually made me want to eat them.
“No,” I replied, forcing myself to sound unimpressed.
“Okay, so you’re more of a meat person. I can totally see you letting out little moans over a beef filet Rossini.”
“What’s that—Rossini?”
“It’s a thing with foie gras and a wine sauce, really good, you should try it.”
