He threw a look at me, then back to her. “Go upstairs and cool off. I’ll stay down here with her.”

She glared at me, still fuming, but eventually stormed out. Now it was just me and Seylan. I remembered how filthy he’d been the last time we were in a room together. His eyes always went where they shouldn’t.

“Serenity Veylor.” He leered at me like a predator. “I see you still got that bite. I’m glad we finally get some time alone.”

I glared back. “Don’t expect me to return the sentiment. What I want is to know why I’m here. You and your sister, what do you want from me? What’s the plan you’re so desperate to pull off?”

He clicked his tongue. “Tsk, tsk. I’m not here to satisfy your curiosity. Nah, I’m the one asking questions here.” His eyes darkened as he stepped closer, voice dropping to a sick whisper. “What I want to know is how you like it in bed. How you moan when you’re getting fucked deep. What does that pussy taste like, for your idiot husband to stab my hand over it?” His fingers traced my skin and I jerked away.

“Don’t touch me!” I growled, anger twisting inside me.

My body shook with fear. I could see him working himself up, feeding on my panic. He leaned in until his breath froze my blood.

“When I’m done, you’ll beg me for more. I’ll take whatever I want and record every second, every thrust of this dick in every hole. Then I’ll send it all to your husband, so he knows exactly how I fucked you and broke you apart. He’ll never forget how I got my revenge for what he did to me, to my sister, and to our whole family.”

He stood and started to pace the room, hands fidgeting with his belt.

“Without him, we’d already have our place on the Big Six council. Not that I cared for those arrogant bastards, but the immunity and influence would have been good for business. We were promised that spot. They said they’d help us get on the council. But your husband ruined everything.”

Promised a seat?

My mind spun. Which one of those families made a deal with the Sawyer’s? Draven was so loyal to Konflict, I doubted he would ever betray him. Crowhurst was too solitary for alliances. That left Marquette and Hollister. Which one was the snake, or were both of them playing dirty?

“What does any of this have to do with me?”

“You’re a Veylor. It has everything to do with you.” He leaned close, words curling in my ear like poison. “Let me tell you a secret. This whole war between the Veylor’s and the Korven’s wasn’t just rivalry. It was designed to wipe your families out, clear the board so the Sawyer’s could move in. All that blood was supposed to open a seat for us. Business would have changed forever. But you and your parasite of a husband survived.”

The shock left me cold. Had they helped start the war? What was their role? My heart pounded as I remembered the bodies, the screams, the slaughter, the death of Kate, Konflict’s rage. My body started shaking.

“Did you kill Kate Korven?” My voice trembled as he scoffed.

“No, that was your father. He did it alone, and your husband saw him do it. That’s what triggered him. We never planned to touch a Korven with our own hands. We couldn’t risk that war. But we know how to hurt people in the dark. We went after your father’s dirty business. Knocked over one of his shipments, made sure he blamed the Korven’s. It was easy to push him toward murder. The rest, you already know. You survived, then your husband blocked us from the council, and that pissed me off. A lot.”

He leaned in, lips almost touching mine.

“And when I get angry, I do very bad things.”

His smile made my stomach turn. Unlike Eleana, who played at being dangerous, Seylan was the real menace. I knew he meant every word.

My heart hammered in my chest, blood roaring in my ears. Fear almost swept me under.

He stood and started unbuttoning his pants.

“No, what are you doing?”

He grinned and pulled his pants down. “Isn’t it obvious? I’m going to fuck you until you pass out. Then my sister can do whatever she wants with what’s left.”

“No, no, please… don’t… please.” Panic took over.

I knew things were about to go bad. My eyes shot to the tiny window near the ceiling, where the last bit of daylight still crept into the room. I had no idea how to get out, and there was no one coming to save me.

Even so, I started screaming, hoping someone, anyone, might be out there to hear me.

“Help! Please, someone help me!”

He shook his head, laughing. “No one can hear you, sweetheart. We’re too far from everything.”

He dropped his boxers and his dick bobbed in the air as he stroked himself, closing the distance.
