“Micha, no you do not need to worry about this.” I try to sound sweet and genuine, but I don’t believe it. He should be scared.
I am.
“I can only assume, but I am guessing it ended when he killed that Pentenner guy?” He sits back and folds his arms not realizing that discussing this is hell.
I swallow some wine and take a deep breath before I delve into this. “LeviTenpennerwas his name, and no. We broke up after about seven months into his sentence.” I admit and like everyone who didn’t know us then, I see his judgement.
“You were his prison girl?” He chuckles, his tone mocking and enough to end our date early. I don’t need his shit, or anyone’s for that matter.
“You know, I am so tired. Mind taking me home?” I push my plate aside and reach for my purse on the chair beside me. I drop a fifty on the table and look at him. “That’s the smallest bill I have. Can you cover the rest?”
I don’t wait to hear his response. I am in no mood to deal with my boyfriends’ mockery or judgement. Everyone had an opinion, but unless they new him or I, I didn’t care to hear it.
I stand at his car and text Lex while I wait to see if he gets the point or wants to argue. If he wants a fight, I don’t have it in me tonight and I can get a ride from Lex.
Me: Well, Micha met Sam today and now he has jokes.
Lex: Shit!!! You okay? How was that meeting? Mya you have some explaining to do.
Me: Well I might need a ride and I can tell you all about it. I will let you know.
I wait a few more minutes for Micha who comes out the door looking pissed. “Do me a favor Mya. You want to throw a fit over your ex who happens to a be a felon, do so without embarrassing me in a classy restaurant.” He opens my door before turning and stuffing the fifty I left on the table between my breasts.
Oh, this mother fucker.
I slam his door and make my way back to the restaurant when he grabs my arm. “What the fuck are you doing Mya?”
I look up at him, resolve and vehemence in my eyes. “Let me go, or I will truly make a scene. One that will end up on a magazine if I tell Tayla to tell it right.”
“Why are you picking a fight with me in public?”
This is what he always does, and I am over it. He tries to place the blame on me, and I have dealt with it enough. His expectations are too high for the casual slow relationship I initially wanted.
“I need to be alone. You have done enough tonight to elicit a much-needed break.”
“Mya. Look I’m sorry. I guess I was blindsided by your ex showing up.”
I ignore him and make my way back in the restaurant to call Lex. Even if this was about Sully coming to see me or what history we have is no excuse to treat me like shit.
Me: Please come get me.
When you are done you are done.
