Nothing between us.

I arched up, pressing against his hot, hard length.

Begging for it, too.

A guttural sound rolled in his chest, and he rocked up, his forehead pressed to mine as he tried to temper the lust that screamed.

Volatility shocking through his domineering body.

Clearly he was trying to control himself.

Worried that he was pushing me in a direction that I wasn’t ready to go.

My fingers sank into his shoulders, our stares unwavering as I breathed across his lips, “I’m safe with you.”

“I promise that you’re always going to be.” The words came with the force of an earthquake.

Silas reached between us, taking himself in his hand and aligning with my center. The blunt head of him brushed my lips, notching just inside, a pulsing fullness that wasn’t close to being enough.

A shaky sound wheezed out of me as he stared down at me for one moment more.

An oath.

A promise.

Our truth.

Then he growled as he drove himself deep.

Every ounce of oxygen fled my lungs. The man so big he overwhelmed. My body stretched to capacity as he took me whole.

My nails scratched at his back as I struggled to adjust to his size. Or maybe I was just struggling to adjust to the sharp shift in my life.

A whimper of yielding curled out of me.

One that Silas swallowed, his words murmured into my mouth. “Brinley, fuck. So good. So good. Nothing in the world like the feel of you.”

As if he’d been struck the same way.

Changed in a blink.

In the joining of something that shouldn’t be but somehow came into focus in perfect, quick sense.

“Nothing.” I clung to him as I said it. Like my life depended on it.

I guess in some way, it did.

Silas slid an arm around my waist, splaying his palm wide at the small of my back as he dragged me close, this man who’d broken down every wall and every reserve.

The one who’d made himself a place in the hollowness and filled it to overflowing.

“You fit me perfectly, baby. Do you feel it the way I do? Like you were made for me. Like you’ve been embedded in every cell.”

“And I’ll never be the same.”

Silas pulled almost all the way out, and I let go of a whimpered, needy plea, before he surged in as far as he could take me.

“Told you I was going to ruin you,” he grunted through the desire that leapt into the room.
