As if she’s read my thoughts, Callie says, “Screw that guy. It’s his loss. You’re one of us now.”
One of us.
Our family has changed so much over the last two years. I don’t relish the circumstances that brought him home, but having Wilder back seems to have spurred our lives into motion again. Olivia wafted in on a breeze, and it felt like she’d always been there. Ruby finally settled down with Liam after ten long years of waiting. Then Callie came along and repaired whatever part of Jaxon had been broken. Now I have Angie, the missing piece to the puzzle, the woman I’d all but given up. It almost feels too good to be true.
I run my fingers through Angie’s hair, and her eyes drift shut.
“Tired?” I ask.
She responds with a quiet hum.
Olivia gives me a knowing smile. “We should get going. Emmy and Gracie will be waiting for us.”
Jaxon looks up at Callie. “Us, too. Atticus could be withering away as we speak. He’ll never forgive me if he doesn’t get his afternoon treats.”
Angie starts to stand, but I pull her back down.
“Stay. They know where the door is.”
“That’s rude,” she says, the words coming out on a yawn.
Olivia laughs. “Growing babies is hard. Get some sleep. We’ll text you later.”
Not more than five minutes after everyone leaves, Angie falls asleep against my chest. I press a soft kiss to her forehead and reposition her across the sofa, draping a blanket over her prone figure. Stepping back, I let my eyes linger, vowing to turn too good to be true into forever, somehow.

I never gavemuch thought to what heaven would be like, but I imagine it’s a lot like waking up with Angelina in my arms. I stare down at her sleeping form, taking in the way her eyelashes fan out across her cheeks, the quiet exhales escaping past her parted lips, and the way her delicate nose twitches when she’s dreaming.
I wonder what she’s dreaming about—lately she’s played a starring role in all of mine. I close my eyes, and there she is. Beautiful. Ethereal.
I press a gentle kiss to her temple, letting my lips linger on her soft skin. I get a hit of her feminine scent, and it sends a jolt of electricity through my veins, more potent than any drug. I’m addicted to this woman and the feelings she stirs within me.
Her eyelashes flutter open, and her eyes meet mine. Shegives me a lazy smile, stretching her arms above her head. “G’morning.”
“Morning, gorgeous. Sleep well?”
She nods and nuzzles into my neck. She’s adorable first thing in the morning, like a cuddly kitten. “You smell good,” she says sleepily.
I chuckle against the side of her head. “Right back at ya, baby girl. How’s the little tater tot this morning?”
She groans. “Sitting on my bladder. I need to get up.”
All too soon, her warmth disappears, and she trails to the bathroom wearing nothing but a T-shirt and panties. The globes of her ass hang out the bottom, leading to the sexiest goddamn legs I’ve ever laid eyes on.
I’ll never get tired of this view.
She’s only gone for a few minutes before she slips back into bed. Her freezing toes press into my shin, and I flinch. “Holy hell, your toes are like ice cubes.”
“I know. That’s why I need you to warm them up.” She slides them under my legs again. “Mmm. Much better.”
“For you, maybe. Now my legs are cold.”
