Chapter Fifteen

Maisie

“You good? You seem off today.” My teammate Erica jogs up beside me, her face flushed despite the cooler temperatures today.

“I’m good. Just tired.” I blow out a hard breath, knowing tired is the understatement of the year. Exhausted is more like it.

Two years ago, when Macallan and I hooked up, both times it was one and done. We’d have sex and then part ways shortly after. But not this time. No, this time Macallan was inside of me so many times that I lost count. Waking me in the middle of the night with his erection pressed against my ass. Refusing to let me leave the bed this morning without being inside me one more time. I think I maybe got two hours of sleep total.

Not that I’m complaining.

I would spend a million sleepless nights with Macallan if they were all like last night.

“Well, shake it off because Coach is watching, and if youkeep slacking on the pass, she’s going to make you run laps,” she warns.

“Heard.” I nod, watching her jog off moments later.

Practice lasts another forty minutes, and by the time it’s done, I’m dragging so bad that I consider crawling out of the locker room just so I don’t have to use my legs.

I’ve just reached the exit of the practice facility when my phone rings, Char’s face lighting up the screen.

“Hey.” I press the device to my ear.

“Do you know what time it is?” is the first thing Char says.

I quickly check my smartwatch, seeing it’s just after one.

“One o’clock.” I phrase it more like a question.

“Exactly. One o’clock. You were supposed to call me.”

“Was I?” I’m so tired, I don’t remember.

“Yesterday. We were interrupted. You said you’d call me back. Ring any bells?”

“Oh, shit. I’m sorry. It’s been... an interesting twenty-four hours.”

“So you stayed at Mac’s?”

“I did.”

“You slut.” She barks out a laugh. “I knew it was only a matter of time before you gave it up.”

“You’re the slut,” I fire back, obviously joking.

“Not anymore. I’m a one-man woman now.”

I can hear the smile in her voice so clearly, it’s almost as if she’s standing right in front of me.

“As if I need reminding that you and Lyric are head over heels in love and I just spent the night in the arms of a man that I considered a mortal enemy until last week.”

“Not an enemy anymore, it would seem.”

“No, not anymore.” It’s my turn to smile as my minddrifts back to last night. To the way Macallan held me. To the words he whispered when he thought I was asleep. You’re mine now, Mais. Even if you don’t know it yet.My heart constricts much like it did when he said it.

“So... Don’t leave me in suspense here. How was it?”

“It was... God, Char, it was incredible. So much better than last time. Not that he wasn’t good then, but this... Last night was on a whole different level. The things he said... The things hedid. I’m not sure I’ll ever recover.”
