Dani’s eye met mine, and her wicked expression gave me ideas.

“I totally will.”

“Need any help?”

“I’ve got it covered, but thank you so much for calling. Let’s get together soon. I want to hear about your date. Right now, I’ve got a situation.”

“I’ll get out of your hair then. Take care.”

Dani hung up the phone without taking her eyes off me.

“What’s your situation?” I asked.

“I remembered something very important I need to do.”

“Yeah? What’s that?”

“I’ve got a roommate promise to break.”

She grabbed my hand, and we turned towards Old Blue. Dani laughed before we’d gone more than a few steps.

“Look, it’s my parents. I guess they heard the news about us.”

That was a dash of cold water, but I wasn’t disappointed. We had all the time in the world to break that foolish promise again and again.
