“We got ya,”Zenko confirmed he could see Saxon’s truck from his position.
“Bravo Two and Ambra Two in position.”Castiel confirmed both he and Drax were at the rear of the property waiting for Saxon, Roman, and Luc to come out with Rick.
“Ambra Three approaching Checkpoint Alpha.”Reese’s call told them he was coming on the moped with the pizza. Cliche, maybe, but they figured this was their best shot. Surveillance carried out by Reese and Castiel earlier had confirmed the Boss had left two men in charge of the building. Men had to eat… Right?
Reese didn’t acknowledge them as he zoomed past on what sounded like a lawnmower, a hot box strapped to the rear of the moped. Saxon hadn’t minded forking over more money for the pizzas; if it distracted the men guarding Rick, it was more than worth it.
“We got ya, Ambra Three.”Zenko said.“See you on the other side, bro.”
“You just keep your scope on my ass, Ambra One, and we’re good.”
“Ambra Three, Ghost Four,”Shaun’s dry tone sounded from a distance, as if he were situated behind Zenko in a spotter position with his scope trained on the villa and Red Squadron as they got into position.“My man does not need to be looking at your pretty ass.”
“You think his ass is pretty?”
Saxon snorted out a laugh at Zenko’s indignant tone, waiting to hear how Shaun would respond.
“I love you, babe, but I’m not dead, I can appreciate a pretty ass.”
“The fuck—”
“Ambra One, TOC here,”Max interrupted the shit slinging.“Quit fucking around and get back to work.”
“Sorry, TOC, my bad.”Zenko didn’t sound one bit sorry at all. No doubt Max could hear it too, but chose to ignore it.
“Bravo Three out.”Saxon was in place and ready. He could sit here until dawn and listen to Zenko and Shaun bickering over the state of Reese’s ass, or he could get moving. He hit the off button on his earpiece and made sure it was secured in his ear. He checked his handgun one last time, making sure it was loaded. “Ready?” he asked Rome and Luc.
“Yup, we’re just waiting on Ambra Three.”
As if Reese had heard them mention his name, his voice came over coms.“Ambra Three is approaching Checkpoint Bravo.”Good, he had rung the bell and was waiting for the people inside to respond.
“TOC copies, Ambra Three.”
Flexing his fingers, Saxon blew out a breath. “Here goes nothin’.”
“We got this,” Luc told him.
“Yup.” Saxon hoped like fuck they did. Anything else was not acceptable.
All three got out of the jeep and headed toward the spot on the fence that Max had told them was the closest point of entry, where they couldn’t be seen from the gate to the front door.
“Bravo Three, TOC, Ghost Four,”Shaun called over coms,“Ambra Three is at Checkpoint Charlie.”He made the call, as Reese would not be able to access his coms while there was the possibility that the intercom on the gate was open and could hear him.
“Copy.” Saxon stood his boot into Luc’s cupped hands and was boosted over the fence. Roman quickly followed. Luc took a running jump and made it high enough for Roman to haul him over, too. “TOC, Bravo Three at Checkpoint Delta.”
“Copy that, Bravo Three,”Max responded,“You are clear to proceed.”
Max’s words told them he had a visual on their body cameras, and knowing Max, he’d probably hacked the house’s security cameras, too. When he was monitoring their team on missions from the TOC, Max would hack anything available to give them an edge. In the distance, they could hear Reese’s voice raised in anger as he talked to the man. The faint sounds of a walkie talkie gave them the heads up for what was coming next.
“TOC, Ghost Four, Ambra Three at Checkpoint Echo.
There it was, that was their confirmation that Reese was arguing with the man who had come to the gate, and the second guard had exited the house to see what was going on.
“Bravo Three, TOC, Go. Go. Go.”.
On Max’s order, they ran from the fence line to the house in a low crouch. Pausing at the corner of the building, Saxon held his handgun at ready position. It was weird to be only using a Sig for entry, they were more used to using an M-16, but a weapon like that was hard to hide and they hadn’t wanted any nosey neighbors raising the alarm. Handguns were the weapon of choice tonight.
A touch on his shoulder told him Luc had done the same to Roman a second before, and they were good to move. Saxon rounded the corner and broke into a run, careful of where he put his feet, making sure to only step on grass. The sound of boots on gravel would alert the guards that something was amiss. Seconds later, he was in the front door with Roman and Luc hot on his heels.
