In the rearview mirror, before he had to turn his attention back to the streets, Cade caught a quick glimpse of Rio’s eye’s widening. “Why?”
Rio coughed before he answered, “Um—no reason, I am… kinda think sticking together may be a good idea.”
Cade’s brain and training told him a million reasons why taking Rio to the safe house was wrong. It would compromise the team’s ability to use that house again, and Rock and Grif would be pissed as fuck… being the two most prominent ones, but he ruthlessly pushed them aside. He had a couple of hours before his team arrived. If Rio was willing, they could make the most of them, maybe. “Okay,” He nodded his head, hitting the lever under the wheel before making a turn. “I only have a few hours before you’ll have to leave,” he warned. Oh, he was a dumbass idiot, switching off every brain cell he had and allowing his dick to lead.
“Got it.” Rio blew out a breath, before chewing on the side of his cheek, “Thank you.”
“G One Seven?” Cade hit the button on the speaker attached to his ear.
“Go ahead, G Three.”
“Tell G One, that I have a guest at the house.”
“Yes, Sir.”
He knew it was wrong, knew it was reckless to bring this man there. He also knew his bosses would kick his ass for breaking one of their most important rules. But, yeah, he’d been on an ‘I don’t give a fuck’ kick for months and couldn’t shake it, which had been the object of this trip to Brazil. To blow off steam, to fuck somewhere that wasn’t on his own doorstep. And, oh boy, was Rio pushing all his buttons. Cade decided the agro this choice would cause, might just be worth it.
Chapter Four
Ghost Team Safe House
Rio’s hand went to the door as soon as Cade pulled it into a garage in a house on the outskirts of the city. He was an idiot. The further Cade had driven, the more his apprehension had kicked in. He frowned when the door didn’t open.
“Other side.” Cade stepped out of the car, slammed the door, and reached for the rear door, opening it for Rio. “Kiddo lock.” he explained.
“You have kids?” The other man’s body filling the space between the open door and the body of the car didn’t deter Rio from climbing out.
“Nope,” Cade’s arms, even while not touching him, effectively encased Rio. Almost as if he was waiting for Rio to walk into his chest for a hug.
You are seeing things, stop it.Rio told himself that just because the bullets had stopped flying, was no reason to act like an idiot. This man was a soldier or a cop, but despite the possibility that he was the law, he wanted to trust him. At least he wasn’t the local cops. Or any South American; if anything, the possibility that Cade could maybe get him an update from the people he was supposed to meet tomorrow should have excited him or at least given him hope that he was on the right track. But somehow, tonight, none of that mattered.
Cade pressed closer, “No kids.”
Rio already knew that he was getting goosebumps, he could feel them rising along his neck, where Cade’s breath had hit it. When the hell had the fear and adrenaline turned to lust? He didn’t remember it happening, he just knew that it had.
“If you don’t want this to happen between us,” Cade whispered, “Say it now, and I will take you in the house and give you a spare room.”
“And if I do?” Rio knew he should be calling his father, telling him about the hit on the hotel. If what Cade had said in the car was true then it was possible he had been the target. As much as his father hated him, he would take this attempt on his life as an insult. The war that would result would cross multiple borders and send South America plunging into civil war. No, tomorrow was time enough to figure out what the hell he should or could tell his father. Maybe he could use this opportunity to disappear. Maybe he should ask Cade to help him, and not wait for… what he had been trying to put in place.
“Then we fuck each other stupid for a couple of hours.” Cade nuzzled into the hair behind Rio’s neck. “When my boss gets here, we take you where you are safe.”
Rio’s dick filled at the husky promise in Cade’s tone. Fuck each other stupid? Yeah, stupid is probably what that decision was, but right now he didn’t care. Turning so his mouth met Cade’s, Rio licked along the seam of his lips until the other man opened.
Cade lifted a hand to trace a finger down his cheek, the scruff on Rio’s jaw snagging and catching on his fingertips as he angled his head where he wanted him. “You sure?” he asked quietly.
Rio pressed closer to him at his words. He could feel the erection Cade was sporting, digging into his belly. He fought to hold in a whimper. He wanted that big dick inside of him, and soon. He would worry about what tomorrow brought—tomorrow. “I’m sure.”
“C’mon.” Cade grabbed him by the hand and stepped back, allowing Rio to move away from the car for the first time.
Holding hands? This is a first. But Rio refused to allow himself to even think about it, never mind worry about it. Didn’t have time as Cade pressed him against the wall next to the door leading into the house and kissed him. Rio forgot everything. Poof, his mind officially took a vacation and blanked as Cade’s tongue pushed into his mouth. Somewhere in the far reaches of his mind, he felt one of Cade’s arms reaching out and maybe he heard the beeping of an alarm system as a code was typed in.
When the alarm screeched its fury at the incorrect code, Cade pulled back, his chest heaving, “Shit.” He blocked Rio’s view of the box and reentered the password. Sighing as the earpiece beeped in his ear signaling an incoming call, he pressed the button, “Go.”
“G Three,” Harper said, “Are you at the safe house?”
“Yup,” Cade squeezed his eyes shut. He already knew that he was going to get shit for bringing Rio here, that he entered the code incorrectly was icing on the fucking cake. “My fingers slipped.”
“Okaaay.” The drawn-out word let him know that Harper didn’t believe a word of it. “Check in, in four hours.”
