Who knows, but we’ll figure it out.” He and Axel grabbed handfuls of grocery bags, bringing them to the porch before going back for more.
I don’t know,” Axel stuck his key in the lock and opened the door. “If they are wondering if we are alone here, that amount of food is totally gonna tell them we aren’t. There is no way just the two of us could eat that amount of food in a month.”
Castello strode through the house to the kitchen where Sage and Sawyer were working. “Tell me you found something?”
“Yup,” Sage leaned back in his chair and rolled his shoulders, “The motherload.”
“Good.” Castello took the folder of papers Sage held out to him, flicking through the pages, his eyebrows rising farther and farther as he read through the report. “Shit.”
“I’ll—um—bring the groceries in.” Axel didn’t want to leave, he wanted
to hear what was being said, what the guys had found, but he also knew the meat from the butcher counter was sitting on the front porch in the heat, and if they did want food tonight and to avoid going to the store again, he needed to bring them in.
“We got the food.” Zack and Rafe carried bags into the kitchen.
Sage looked at his Boss, waiting for Castello to decide if he wanted to be the one to ask Axel the question that was burning in his brain since he’d seen the information.
“Do you know who the father of Krystal’s kid is?” Castello finally asked.
“What?” Axel looked up from the grocery bag he had been emptying onto the counter. “No, why?”
“Brendan Givens filed a missing person’s report for his missing grandson two days after you filed one for Krystal.” Castello pulled a page out of the file and handed it to Axel to read. He pointed to a section of the report.
“It says here that the child is assumed to have been taken out of the country by his mother, Krystal Shaw.”
“No fucking way?” Axel knew his jaw had dropped open. He had wanted to kick the shit out of the asshole who knocked his sister up and walked away without a second thought. It had never in a million years occurred to him that it might be one of the Givens. He struggled to remember everything he knew about Brendan Givens’ sons. “Which one of the bastards?”
“I don’t know,” Sage pulled up the police report on screen and projected it onto the white wall of Axel’s kitchen, ensuring they all could read it. “But it does mean that Givens probably wasn’t the one who sold—um—sent her to Mexico.”
“Have we found any connection to Colgan?” Zack moved to stand behind Sage, where he could read the files on screen over his shoulder.
“No.” Sage changed the images. “I did find another missing person’s report though, for Danny Hernandez’s sister. It’s dated two days before he was killed.”
“Shit.” Zack slammed one fist into the other. He obviously needed to hit something. Castello made a mental note to do some sparring with him later.
“You think she is in Mexico too?” Axel leaned in over Castello, reading the file as he did. He pushed the groceries to one side on the counter. Making room for Cas to put the papers down so he could see too.
“It’s possible.” Castello admitted, “What have we got on El Mencho?”
“I’ve got a possible location or two.” Sage admitted, “I am just waiting for a satellite to go overhead so we can check them out.
“Do we have any contacts in the area?”
“Maybe.” Zack pulled out his cell, searching through the list of contacts.
“Depending on where, I may have one or two.” He twisted his mouth in frustration, “Only problem is they will be on Colgan’s list of go-to guys too.”
"Jalisco is El Mencho’s cartel turf, but there are also rumors of a hideaway in Tepic in Nayarit state.”
“Jalisco?” Axel opened the door under the sink and pulled out a bottle.
“The home of Tequila?” He snagged some glasses off a shelf and lined them up, before running the open bottle over the top to fill them.
“Yup,” Sage nodded. “That one.”
“Sooo,” Axel held out a shot of tequila, “Pizza for dinner?”
Castello took the glass Axel offered him and threw it back, taking the burn the alcohol offered. “Nope, we just spent almost five hundred dollars on groceries, healthy food for dinner.”
