“We’re going home. My home. Our home.”

She shakes her head.

“Hunter—”

But I don’t let her finish.

I tug her closer and press my mouth to hers, pouring everything I can’t quite put into words into that single kiss.

When I finally pull back, I help her into the car.

Harry loads the bag into the boot before taking the driver’s seat.

“Home,” I tell him.

He nods.

A second later, the divider between us and the front of the car rises, leaving Piper and me alone.

She keeps her attention fixed on the view beyond the window, avoiding me.

And I let her.

If she wants a few minutes to sit with her thoughts, she can have them.

But not for long.

She’s mine, and she needs to learn that she doesn’t have to carry everything on her own.

No more hiding.

I’ve let her recover and haven’t pushed the issue. But enough is enough. We’re going home, and we’re going to talk.

Then I will deal with everyone who had a hand in this.

Every last one of them.

Starting with my dear father.

Chapter 46

Piper

We arrive at a sprawling estate. It’s obnoxious, really.

There’s a fountain out front, which feels entirely in keeping with the rest of the place.

The moment we step inside, I’m greeted by marble.

Marble everywhere.

A large round table dominates the entrance hall, a huge vase overflowing with flowers at its centre. As I pass, I notice they aren’t artificial either.

The artwork covering the walls is something else entirely. So are the drapes.

Everything about this place practically screams money.

And it’s enormous.
