“Not me. I already had some.” He licked his lip, slowly, and I looked away. “You?”

“No,” I said. “Thank you.”

Suddenly I couldn’t think of anything but bringing this night to a close. It wasn’t because I wanted to rush home so we could fuck. It wasn’t because I was now sexually satisfied and over my date. It wasn’t because I’d just had a top notch orgasm and now felt so relaxed I could go home to sleep.

It was because I wanted to go home and promptly get myself settled into my new bedroom—my own bedroom. Not his. I needed to draw some lines between us. Walls. I needed walls.

Somehow, the idea of sharing his bed with him felt far more intimate than sharing that bed at the resort.

The waiter slipped in to take our non-existent dessert order. Dane handed him the empty wine bottle, and without taking his eyes off me, said, “I think my wife would like another.”

Chapter Twenty-Five

Dane

On Saturday, I took Devi to BHR Tower, home of Brick House Records and one of Trey Jones’ many properties. To show her the new office I’d just acquired.

When Trey himself showed us in, I studied Devi’s reaction, and she looked impressed.

The building had twenty-three floors; this office was on the eighth. Not all that high. I’d taken what was available on short notice, and this was definitely the best office available. Perfect size for our needs, and that view? This one faced northwest, with a virtually unobstructed view over Coal Harbour and the mountains beyond.

“So, what do you think?” Trey asked Devi as he led us into the spacious reception area. The building was about twenty years old, had been recently renovated, and the office was beautiful. Contemporary and clean. Lots of glass, with floor-to-ceiling windows all along the view side.

“Nice office,” Devi said mildly, looking around. “Very nice.”

“Is this perfect for the agency or what?” Trey prompted. He glanced at me and gave me a little wink. “Always wanted a modeling agency in the building.”

Devi’s eyes met mine. That look saidWhat the fuck, Dane.

It also saidYou are really starting to piss me off, Dane.

She turned to Trey, putting on her charming smile. The one she never used on me, unless she was bullshitting me, like that night at the gala. For Trey Jones, I was pretty sure it was genuine. “Do you think you could excuse us, to look around a bit?” she asked him sweetly.

“Of course.” Trey tossed me a sly smile. “Just drop me a text if you need anything.” We shook hands and he strolled out. The glass door floated shut in his wake.

When I turned back to Devi, the smile had dropped off her face.

“What is this?” she demanded.

“It’s an office.”

“You said you were taking me for lunch. I thought there was like, a restaurant up here or something.”

I slipped my hands into the pockets of my pants, relaxed. At this point, her attitude was getting downright comfortable. The more she heated up, the cooler I’d just have to get.

Besides, we hadn’t had a fight in days. I almost missed it.

Since I’d eaten her out at that restaurant two nights ago, she’d been tiptoeing around me, acting extra civil, like she regretted coming on my face. Like maybe we could both pretend it didn’t happen if she just kept our interactions brief, formal, and hid from me in her bedroom at the penthouse.

We couldn’t.

It definitely happened.

It was also happening again, sooner or later. I was pretty confident about that.

She enjoyed it too much to never let it happen again.

“We can go to lunch after this,” I told her. “There’s a great place just around the block.”
