Her chest tightened at his words, and all she could do was mumble, “Okay.”
“You acting like half of your stuff isn’t over here already. Stop thinking too much into it,” he said, but that was easier said than done.
Licking her lips, Cyren nodded, but he couldn’t see her, which was a good thing. The way warmth spread through her chest and heated her face, he’d know something was really wrong. She wasn’t ready to face the music or admit that she wasmoving yet, so she slipped the key into her purse with plans to return it later.
Cyren didn’t knowhow her daddy did it.
Being a habitual liar had to be the most draining thing in the world. Then again, he’d lied so much he couldn’t tell a fib from the truth. With her job secured in Texas and a set start date, she only had a few weeks to get her life together in KC. Though she was sad about Heavy being out of town, she was also grateful because she used the time she would have spent with him on packing.
“Are you having fun?” Cyren asked, as she fastened her bra.
She and Heavy were on FaceTime while he toured a resort. He’d sent her pictures of their grocery store and all the different snacks they had. They talked while he went on a clear boat tour, showing her a glimpse of the sea. A part of her was jealous because she wasn’t with him, although she’d already been, but the other half was happy he was enjoying himself.
“Yeah. It’s relaxing out here. Just being able to take in everything just reminds me to appreciate life more,” he said somberly, reminiscing.
“I know what you mean. You should go snorkeling.”
“Hell nah,” he said, seriously.
Cyren chuckled, slipping her shirt over her head. “Why not? It’s fun.”
“I’ll think about it. Aww man, hold up,” Heavy said, with his voice slightly elevated. “Baby, look at this tree.”
Heavy flipped his camera around, and the prettiest, brightest, orange tree she’d ever seen filled the screen. Thoughthe tree wasn’t real, it was still a main, signature attraction at the Garza Blanca Resort & Spa. The surrounding trees, additional pools, and the ocean view were the perfect backdrop for photos.
“Wow,” she gushed, in awe of its beauty. “That is breathtaking.”
“Man. Who you telling?” Heavy said in awe. “This entire resort is nice as hell. We just got massages and free drinks.”
“Those are always a plus. Can you send me pictures of that tree?”
Heavy nodded, opening his camera app. He planned to take some anyway. “Yeah, I got you. Where you bouta go?”
She had a few errands to run and things to grab to help assist with packing, but he didn’t need to know that.
“To Walmart and the bank, and then to meet Bre for happy hour,” she said, scanning her room. It resembled Skylar’s when she was getting dressed to go out, but it wouldn’t look that way by the end of the week.
“Did you grab that money out of the drawer in my closet?” Heavy asked, taking a seat on one of the lounge chairs.
“Yes. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Don’t forget to tell me what you want for Christmas. My niece and sister are already sending me their lists.”
Cyren had completely forgotten about Christmas being around the corner. Holidays just weren’t the same without her mama here, so she didn’t care much for them. Not wanting to ruin the mood, she simply agreed.
“Okay. Look at you soaking up the sun.” She grinned, wishing she could’ve licked his handsome face through the screen.
The sun was hitting just right, making his brown eyes seem to sparkle. Heavy’s chocolate skin was glowing, his beard was moisturized, and he looked at peace. At least from what Cyren could tell. Relaxation looked good on him.
Heavy smiled, showing off his pretty white teeth. “Trying to enjoy it. I wish you were here instead—” He stopped talking as something caught his eye. Sitting up, she saw his jaw flex.
“Instead of what?” Cyren asked.
He focused back on her. “Instead of there, running errands without me,” he continued, lying back down.
Cyren snickered. “Awww, you miss me?”
“Like a mothafucka. We could’ve been making memories. Fucking you on my balcony while we listened to the ocean and shit.”
