Cal agreed but was saddened that the old man was clinging to his riddles. Everyone thought that he was losing it, but he wasn’t. Cal thought that he just liked to mess with people and as one of the ones that he was messing with, Cal didn’t particularly like it all that much. Michael got his enjoyment out of screwing with everyone’s head.
He watched him walk away and wondered what the old man had meant. He was trying to figure it all out, but at the same time he was giving up on the whole thing. He had more than just Michael and his cryptic message on his mind. Cal had to plan for an imminent attack, as well as sort out what he was feeling for a girl that he didn’t even know. There was something going on there, but he wasn’t sure what it was.
Going back to the house, he finally laid down to get some sleep. It was loud tonight, people reacting to the moon stage and it was hard to sleep with everything on his mind.
He was about to fall asleep after trying for quite a while when he heard a soft knock at the door. It had to be Ali, but he hadn’t heard a peep out of her in some time.
“Cal?”
“Come in.” Cal covered himself with a sheet so that he wouldn’t scare her any more than he already did. Seeing him naked made Ali’s heart jump, and it bothered him that it frightened her so much. He was going to try not to scare her or intimidate her.
“What’s up, Ali?”
“I can’t sleep. There is all this howling outside, and it’s freaking me out.”
“Come here. It will be fine. Do you want to sleep in here?”
She nodded her head and Calum moved over so that she could lay down. He didn’t move the sheet over because he wasn’t dressed, but she slid under the sheet anyways. He didn’t move for a time, afraid that he was going to do something that he wasn’t supposed to.
“I’m cold, Calum.”
“Come here.”
He pulled her to him and rested her head on his chest. Ali snuggled in, and he groaned. This was not good at all. Something was coming over him, and he didn’t know how to deal with it. He couldn’t fall for her, not one marked for the vampires. Michael’s words led him to believe that it was possible, but Calum tried his best to ward off the feelings. He didn’t want to fall for the tiny little blonde but felt that maybe he’d already lost the chance.
