Savanah walked up to the front of the mayor’s house about an hour after he had busted her and Kyllian together in the midst of a passionate kiss. Kyllian heard the knock and walked to the foyer to let her inside. “Hello, beautiful; please come in,” he said, looking at her with a smile.
Savanah looked shocked, expecting to see a servant answer as opposed to Kyllian at first sight. “Oh, I was thinking your father’s butler might answer or something,” she said.
“Well, he would have, but I told him not to. I know how timid you can be in new situations. I didn’t want to put you,” he smiled looking down at her belly and then back up at her, “both in an uncomfortable situation,” he added. Savanah smiled and nodded.
“Please come inside,” he said, as he moved to hold the door for her. Savanah walked into the foyer and gasped in surprise. It was as lavish and lovely as she imagined it would be and Kyllian closed the door behind her as she continued to look around.
“This is fabulous,” she said, used to the humble abode that her room provided.
“It’s okay, I guess. Come on; the dining room is just this way. They should be bringing out the courses soon,” Kyllian said.
Savanah hesitated and grabbed his arm. “Wait, what are we going to tell him? I mean, about my family and my life?” she asked, the typical worrying Savanah once again showing herself.
“We don’t tell him anything; I’ll control the flow of the conversation. Besides, tell him you feel ill, and he will give you a room for the night. Then you can stay here,” he smiled, and grabbed her hand to kiss gently, “with me,” he finished.
Savanah smiled and followed him into the dining room, and the two spent the evening humoring his father as they feasted on every manner of amazing and tasty dish Savanah could ever imagine. Just as Kyllian had instructed, Savanah mentioned feeling ill, and Thomas immediately ordered her to have a room right down the hall that Kyllian’s was on.
As Savanah rested soundly in the middle of the night, Kyllian heard something in the corridor and arose to peek out of the room. A shadowy figure passed by him and Kyllian pursed his brow looking to see who it is.
As Thomas made his way down the corridor, Kyllian watched him and decided it best to follow. Something seemed off about his father, and it reminded Kyllian of how Savanah behaved when in one of her trances, as he moved down the hall almost like he was being controlled by another being altogether.
Kyllian slid out of the room and murmured to himself, “What the hell is going on?” He slowly tiptoed down the hallway and followed his father as he turned the corner and began climbing the next flight of stairs: the stairs that led out to the roof of their house.
Kyllian raised a brow and climbed the stairs just as Thomas walked out the door and out of the house. Kyllian knew Savanah was safe resting in the house, but he still felt like something was eerily off as his father left. Something about it all made Kyllian feel the need to stick to the shadows as he watched his father closely.
Continuing to follow his father, Kyllian kept to the shadows as he watched him stop and make way into a casino. If Thomas had any idea that Kyllian was on his trail, he didn’t show it, and Kyllian kept his pace as he followed him from the shadows to the roof of the casino. Thomas walked to the edge of the roof and waited, an expression of nonchalance painted across his face.
A familiar man who had once visited their home approached Thomas, the dark sunglasses Kyllian remembered him wearing indoors being the prime indicator of his identity, but Kyllian was unable to hear the discussion he and his father had and watched in awe as everything he had ever wondered about his father suddenly became incredibly clear.
The man began to shift and where he stood, now a large, obsidian dragon, with inky wings and a serpentine tail perched on the ledge of the roof. It was something Kyllian had only heard of but knew upon sight immediately. “Psychic abilities. Of course, a Tuuleuss, a creature of immortality and vast intelligence,” he muttered, disappearing quickly as his father turned to walk back his way.
Kyllian had a lot to consider, but for the moment at hand, he needed to get out of sight, feeling torn by the information he had just obtained. Sometimes the answers you were looking for came in the strangest of ways and in these moments, you really didn’t want to deal with them yet. That was how Kyllian was feeling as he strode back into the room and crawled into bed with Savanah. He sighed and closed his eyes; it was all he knew to do for the moment.
