Chapter Twenty-One

***Kyllian***

After the time that Kyllian had spent with Savanah at his oasis, he was beside himself with the possibility of having a family with her. They flew back to the city, enjoying the sweet aroma of the cooling night air, and when they were just out of sight, Kyllian landed, and Savanah slid off of him so that he could shift back to human form.

Savanah, being just as relieved about her revelation, stepped up to him and slid her hand into his. The two were intoxicated by the intimacy they had just shared, and Kyllian could feel his hormones growing more potent by the moment. Lost to the euphoria of themselves, Kyllian and Savanah began to kiss deeply, and Kyllian pushed her back into a nearby building as his hands slid down her body. Savanah grinned, returning the kiss with equal fervor and parting her lips to further encourage his kisses. Kyllian groaned, pinning her to the wall as he deepened the kiss. The risk only seemed to perpetuate the excitement and Kyllian continued to kiss her intently, oblivious as the sounds of footsteps approaching began to echo near them both.

“What the hell is going on here?” a voice bellowed behind them, and Kyllian felt the sudden pressure of someone grabbing his shoulder and pulling him backward.

Savanah gasped as she looked past Kyllian to see who had snatched him away. “I said what the hell is going on here? Someone going to answer? Who is this girl, Kyllian?” the mayor shouted.

Kyllian rolled his eyes in anger and snatched his shoulder back, stepping back as he looked at the face of his father. “That doesn’t matter,” he said, trying to avoid having to come up with some random story to protect Savanah’s identity. The last thing he needed was his father following their every action.

“Yes, it does. You were all over each other like sucking leeches. You can’t lie to me. I saw it with my own two eyes,” the mayor insisted.

“Don’t worry, Thomas; it’s not going to upset your politics,” Kyllian muttered.

“Well, clearly you are very serious about her, son. If that is the case, why not invite her to come for dinner?” Thomas said, eager to learn more about the girl his son couldn’t seem to pull away from. Savanah kept her gaze averted, her cheeks burning from both the kiss and her embarrassment. The last thing they needed was for the mayor to recognize Savanah for who she truly was.

“You want me to invite her to dinner?” Kyllian asked, a little surprised by this statement.

The mayor looked over Savanah and nodded. “Well, yes. Why wouldn’t I? I’m proud to see you have finally found someone to engage your interest. It’s about time,” the mayor admitted. “Would you come to dinner, miss?” he asked, directing the question at Savanah.

Savanah glanced at Kyllian and nervously inhaled a breath.

“Come on, speak up, girl. There is no need to be shy,” the mayor encouraged.

Kyllian looked at her silently and shrugged.

“Yes, I can come for dinner. I would be honored, but I think I should go get ready for it first,” Savanah said, looking over her damp clothes as she searched for ways to get out of the situation they were in as quickly as possible.

“Very well, that would be excellent, then,” the mayor said, smiling toward Kyllian.

Savanah walked forward and stood up on her tiptoes to press a kiss to Kyllian’s cheek. “I will see you soon,” she murmured, turning to walk away and head back to her home.

Kyllian closed his eyes and inhaled her scent, but his moment of contentment came crashing to a halt when his father leaned in to whisper.

“So, tell me, boy. I must know: is she a human girl or a Naga?” he asked, putting some emphasis on the dragon species as he asked. Kyllian sighed and rolled his eyes. The question annoyed him, but he grinned inwardly when he was able to say,

“No, she is a human girl,” Kyllian retorted.

The mayor placed his hand on Kyllian’s shoulder and gave it a tight squeeze, pulling his son in for a side hug as he looked him over. “Excellent! That is great! I’m so proud of you for choosing wisely, my son, though I must admit I am pleasantly surprised.” He nodded and continued, “Yes, very surprised, but so very proud. You need to keep a hold on that girl, son, that is for sure,” he finished.

Kyllian sighed a breath of relief; even though his father’s words did slightly upset him, he knew that the statement would make it easier to keep his promise to Savanah in the end.

“Yes, I know, and I fully intend to,” Kyllian said, looking back at his father and smiling slightly. “I couldn’t imagine her not in my life,” he added.

The mayor smiled and released his hold. “Well, let’s get back to the house and get ready for this dinner then. I am very excited to learn more about your girl. What is her name anyway?” the mayor asked.

“I think you should probably just ask her that yourself when she comes back,” Kyllian said.

“You’re going to give me a hard time about her name now?” the mayor asked.

Kyllian chuckled. “As Shakespeare once said, father, what’s in a name?” he chuckled, walking ahead as he considered what he and Savanah would tell his father over dinner.

“Oh, come on, boy. Tell me the girl’s name,” Thomas insisted.

Kyllian chuckled again. “Her name is Savanah,” he said with a smile. Things were definitely about to get very interesting, indeed.
