“Understandable,” Kyllian trailed off for a moment, shifting from one leg to another before he spoke again. “Look, I came back because I didn’t like the way we left things. If you are still done with me, that’s okay, but I think we deserve a better goodbye than that. It just felt very wrong,” he said, taking charge of the awkwardness.
“I think we have some things to talk about,” she said, knowing it was truer than he realized. “But I am sorry for the things I did and said. I have my reasons, but I think I went about it all wrong. I don’t know if you can forgive me, but I am willing to explain if you will listen,” she offered shyly.
A grin quirked up on one side of his face, and she knew he was back to her in some way already. “Okay, we can talk. But I want us to be alone, completely alone.”
“Where would we go?” she asked curiously.
“Do you trust me?” he questioned back, giving no true answer. Savanah held back, wondering what he had in his head. But the thing was, she did trust him. It would be lying to deny that, even though those who cared for her may or may not get angry by her disappearing with him, right after she almost got taken for trafficking again. They needed to work this out. Her heart couldn’t take the separation anymore, especially with not knowing if there was a chance to somehow make this work, even if it was unlikely.
“Yes,” she said finally, but what happened next was completely out of her realm of expectations.
As quick as a flash, he had turned to his Naga form again, a brilliant shining blue that glistened with each new hue. He was glorious and majestic, but also frighteningly powerful.
She was left little time to admire him as he flapped his wings, ascending into the sky only to gain momentum and come back down, headed right for her.
A scream got locked in her throat as the large dragon swiftly scooped her up from the spot where she stood, causing her to get into position and hang on tight to whatever she could find as they rocketed back up and out over the undeveloped desert that lay beyond everything.
