Chapter 24:

***Siefer***

King Siefer felt the sword slice into his side between his upper and lower armor. His body spun, and his eyes met those of a Milisarian guard as he began to fall. One of his own men had betrayed him. It hurt the king down to his soul. He fell beneath dozens of feet, sliding in the blood of their opponents. The king watched as Nabvan's sword took the head of his betrayer. Then he rolled out of the way. He was bleeding profusely from his wound, but that did not stop him. King Siefer pulled a knife and slashed at the legs of those fighting to kill his knights. As they fell, he ended their lives with a thrust to the heart.

Covered in blood from his wound and those he had conquered, King Siefer crawled beneath the spaceship. He was growing weaker and expected to die soon. His thoughts and heart were with Destiney and Scyon. He regretted not being able to tell them how much he loved them just one more time. His arms, useless at his side, longed to hold his wife and son. Scyon would never know his father as he had been before he became king. He had never seen the kind and gentle giant behind the arrogant mask. King Siefer let his tears fall as he realized he had not heard Destiney's sweet voice in weeks and might never hear it again. He had made far too many mistakes as a husband and a king. He felt that he deserved to die alone, without the Milisarian blessing to send him on his way in peace. King Siefer struggled to remain awake. It was a losing battle. He whispered, "Nabvan, take good care of my family." The king lost consciousness.
