That might not always help, but he did his best to watch my expressions and seemed to be reading me well.

“I think that sounds very logical.” Since that was high praise from him, I wasn’t surprised when it came with a careful cheek kiss. “Thank you for thinking thoroughly through the issue.”

“You’re welcome.” It helped that I hated texting as well. “I might not always understand where you’re coming from at first about a topic, but in this case, we’re sharing a brain on the issue.”

Chuckling softly, he shook his head and snuggled back into me, feeling more relaxed than he had before. “I think I’m going to side with you just being highly intelligent.”

I wouldn’t argue about that.

“Thank you.” Kissing his head again, I went back to running my hand over him to make sure he could tell I was still needing to connect with him physically. “But fair warning, I’m also a very curious man as well as a highly intelligent one, so I can’t wait to get to know you more.”

That got another quiet laugh out of him. “You already know a lot about me.”

My scoff had him smiling wider and shaking his head. “I don’t know what kind of music or sounds you like best. I don’t know if you read for pleasure or just research. I don’t know what your favorite food is or where you like to go out to dinner. I could keep going but I won’t.”

Settling against me, he shifted one hand to rub my forearm. “Why did you include sounds? Most people don’t.”

Most people hadn’t grown up with an autistic cousin and a whole branch of the family that just saw the world differently. When I’d been growing up no one thought to get kids diagnosed with anything as long as they were doing well in school and had a life plan that didn’t end up with them in their parents’ basement forever.

Some of them might’ve had an easier time if therapists had been involved, but the family had generally meant well and learned to adapt.

“You don’t seem like the audiobook type even though those are all the rage right now, and I just can’t see you as the type to spend your commutes singing about how you lost your girl, your truck, and your dog all in the same day.” My ridiculous answer got a giggle from him. “I thought about rap for a moment but you’re speaking rhythm doesn’t scream angry poetry to me.”

I wasn’t against any type of music but I was fairly certain my boy didn’t have the same views.

“I’ve never owned a truck.” His response had my chest jerking in silent laughter, but he didn’t seem to mind because he simply ignored it. “I’m also allergic to dogs.”

He was hysterical without ever meaning to be funny.

Even his dramatic sigh had me smiling wider behind his back. “But you’re right. I have several apps with sounds that I enjoy, and if I listen to music, it’s just instrumental.”

“When you’re ready, I’d love to hear your favorite sound apps but we can do that once you’ve learned more about me.” My boy’s immediate reaction to go still had me more curious than worried. “Is there something I should know?”

“Music is personal.” His careful explanation made perfect sense to me, so I nodded and just made a quiet understanding sound. “You don’t mind waiting?”

“My boy, I don’t even know your name yet. I think I’ve proven to be very patient.”

That time when he went still again I had to try not to smile.

“Oh.” His soft grumbly sound was almost my undoing, but I managed to keep a straight face. “You’re very distracting.”

And he was very sassy...but I was thoroughly enjoying watching him do his best to hold it back, so I wasn’t going to complain.

“I think I’m going to take that as a compliment and decide how I’m going to reward you.” He tested my ability to behave to the limit when he turned his head around and frowned at me.

“When will it be appropriate to explain that wasn’t the right response?” His adorably serious expression was one I was never going to forget.

“When we get to the point where you’d like to explore spankings.”

He wasn’t going to forget mine either.

“I’ll take that into consideration.”

Had I mentioned how cute he was?

“Good plan.” Giving him another light peck, I tried to keep my delight in check. “It’d also be a good plan to pick out several compliments to give me as we leave later. That way I can keep replaying them in my head as I drive home.”

He blinked several times before turning in my arms so he could face me easier. “Where you’re going to jerk off?”
