Another grimace crossed her face. “We wiped it, sorry.”

“What the hell?” The acid boiling in my stomach grew in intensity. I straightened to my full height despite the ache in my shoulder.

She lifted her chin in defiance. “We don’t allow outside devices in the building in case there’s tracking software on it, and I’d consider that a pretty safe bet with you.”

I clenched my fists, then forced them to relax. I wasn’t going to get answers if I started shouting. “How long have I been here?”

Her eyes jumped away from mine. “A couple of days.”

“What?” That would explain the gnawing hunger in my belly. “Why did I stay out so long?” The fact that I’d passed out from a gunshot wound to begin with was rather embarrassing. Walker would laugh when I told him—if I ever found him. But why had I remained unconscious?

A guilty expression crossed Jolyn’s face. I cocked my head to the side. “What did you do?”

She swallowed, her throat bobbing. “We kept you sedated to allow for faster healing.”

I saw through her lie. “You wanted to keep me immobile and at your mercy.” She’d gotten me shot, kept me sedated, and messed with my phone.

The acid inside my stomach turned to molten lava. I advanced toward her, my bear rejoicing at my aggression. It should have worried me—that we were on the same page.

Jolyn’s eyes widened, but I didn’t stop. She took a step back, then another and another until her spine pressed against the wall beside the double doors. My hands shot out, caging her before she could escape, my palms pressed flat against the concrete. I ignored the burning in my shoulder in favor of impressing upon her the potency of my rage.

A memory flashed, one where I pinned her in a similar position and thrust inside her while she begged formore…harder…faster.

I gritted my teeth against the onslaught. “Where’s Walker?”

“I don’t know.” Her face flushed, the apprehension in her scent heightening.

“Then you’re lying to me like you always have been. You said you were going to give me answers. ‘I don’t know’ isn’t an answer. Where is Brooke’s sister?”

Confusion furrowed her brow. “Who?”

Her reaction seemed genuine, but I couldn’t trust my instincts around her. “Sabrina Covin.”

She shook her head, confusion remaining. I also couldn’t trust her enough to give her more details about the sisters if she wasn’t already aware of them. Who knew what she’d do with the information?

“Why were those men after you?”

She shook her head again.

“Did you steal from them? Are you trafficking people?”

Her eyes widened. “What?”

“Why did you steal from me?” She flinched, but I wasn’t backing down. “Why that lab? Why that particular design? What did you do with it? Sell it?”

Her chest heaved up and down, like she couldn’t take a proper breath.

“It was all some payday for you, wasn’t it? You used me like a cash cow.”

“You don’t know anything about me!” The words burst out of her like a breached dam. “You grew up with me and my brother, and you were totally clueless. Just like everyone else in that town.”

A bitter laugh wanted to erupt from my throat, but I managed to swallow it. If she only knew how long I’d been infatuated with her, how I’d watched her from afar because I knew she had a thing for Kane, and I’d waited for her to act on her feelings.

“I know you fucked me with the intent of stealing from me. What does that say about you?”

A bruised expression crossed her face.

My chest twinged. I clenched my jaw in resolve. It might have been a low blow, but I wouldn’t take it back. Not when my insides burned with all the lies she’d told me. Everything she’d done to manipulate me. Every soft touch she’d given me, every gentle word—it had all been to use me.
