“Actually-” swallowing my nerves, I snag the remote off of the nightstand and crawl into the center of the massive bed. “I don’t really want to be alone with my thoughts right now. Do you want to stay for a little while? At least until I fall asleep?”
Studying my face, he slowly eases back onto the bed, body stiff, but the words that pour out of his face have never rung with such sincerity. “There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.”
Chapter 5
Amara
––––––––
Fucking hell, it’sa million degrees in here.
I get a lungful of Stone’s calming, woodsy scent, so even groggy, it’s pretty easy to figure out that it’s him radiating heat like a damn furnace. My face is pressed into his side, one hand resting on his chest that he has captured beneath his, and our legs tangled together under the blanket. Prying open one eyelid, I push up on my elbow enough to see his other arm slung over his eyes, softly snoring.
Fingers tighten on my stomach, and I momentarily stiffen. Glancing over my shoulder, I find Kodiak plastered to my back, grumbling in his sleep as he pulls me closer, and I gradually relax.
Only the four of us have access to this room, and none of them would hurt me; I truly believe that. It’s okay that I didn’t notice Kodi sneaking into bed with us. It means I trust Stone enough to fall into a deep sleep.
But my gods, it’s sweltering being pinned between two dragons.
Trying not to wake them, I pinch the blanket between my toes and slowly begin inching it up so I can at least stick my feet out of the bottom to cool down. Against the back of my neck, Kodi sleepily mumbles, “Keep squirming, beautiful, and I’m going to spend the morning giving your shower a new paint job.”
Taking advantage of him being half-awake anyway, I finish kicking my feet free and sigh in relief at the rush of cool air against my overheated skin. “Raiden didn’t feel like joining, I take it?”
Kodiak nuzzles my throat. “The psychopath barely sleeps on the best of days. Until he has a plan of attack, he’ll be M.I.A.”
Not in any hurry to get up, I snuggle back between them, intentionally grinding my ass against Kodi in the process. His fingers dig into my flesh with a tortured groan, and Stone mimics the sound.
Stroking his thumb over the back of my hand he has pinned against his chest, Stone rumbles, “Thousands of years on this earth, yet nothing has tested my self-control as much as you, little dragon.”
I’m suddenly grateful for the heat as an excuse to camouflage the color rising in my cheeks. “I don’t really see why it’s necessary.”
They both stiffen. When Stone speaks, his tone is cautious. “Amara?”
Am I really doing this?
“We’ve all been pretty stressed lately. Maybe blowing off a little steam would do us all some good.”
