Chuckling, he settles his palm on my hip, thumb rhythmically stroking my side. “Obnoxious?”

Eyelids suddenly too heavy to fight, I blindly grope for the blanket and haul it over us, leaving my palm settled on his chest. Gradually, my heartbeat begins to slow, falling in sync with his, and lulling me to sleep better than any white noise I’ve tried before.

Mumbling, I sleepily reply, “I get it, you go to the gym and eat babies for breakfast. I mean, can’t fault the end result, but it’s a bit overkill, don’t you think? Nobody really needs to be able to crack a walnut between their bicep and forearm.”

The laugh that shakes his body has me grinning. “Go to sleep, pretty girl.”

As his thumb continues its steady path, I nestle deeper into his side, gently trailing my fingers over his chest. His rhythmic motion falters, and I’m pulled from the dozed state that I was slipping into. A soft rumbling vibrates my fingers that had fallen still and I mentally snort in amusement.

Just like Reid. Maybe guys have a sensitive spot on their chests I wasn’t aware of. None of the other guys I've hooked up with have said a thing, but then again, most men refuse to believe where their G spot is, so I wouldn’t be surprised.

Experimenting, I resume my soft strokes, gradually exploring to see if anything garners a reaction. Lightly raking my nails across his chest, his hand suddenly flies up to grab my wrist, a strangled sound escaping him.

“Angel, you're too tired for the things I want to do to you,” he declares. “You keep that up, neither of us are getting any sleep, and I’d hate to embarrass myself by not being at the top of my game the first time I touch you.”

A shiver runs down my spine, and I tilt my face up to find him staring down at me with an intensity that’s as thrilling as it is unnerving. “First time? So confident there will be a second?”

A genuine smile slowly chases away the last of the shadows in his eyes. “Not a doubt in my mind.”

Pleased with the declaration, I lay my head on his chest again, closing my eyes. “Then I suppose you’d better make sure nothing pops out of the closet to maul me to death, because you’re right; I’m too exhausted to back up any claims right now.”

If I wasn’t fused to him, I’d have missed the way he goes rigid at my words. He pulls me tighter against him, returning to his soothing strokes. “Not while I’m here.”

Chapter 10

Sabrina

“Ichanged my mind,I wanna go home.”

We had to take two cars; Slade and Cinjin are with Emmy in the other, leaving me sitting beside Reid as Boden pulls into a spot amidst a long line of cars with names I can’t even pronounce. Reid’s slate grey suit highlights his pale eyes perfectly, fitted in all of the right places, yet even that can’t distract me now that we’re here. If I thought their house was a mansion? It’s got nothing on this place.

Cream, stucco walls, and several pillars flank a massive staircase simply to reach the front door. The second story has a walk-out balcony that circles the entire structure, overhanging the entrance and casting eerie shadows in the waning afternoon light. If the outside is any indication, I can completely see why the guys are carefully navigating their way through this political song and dance, why Emmy’s accepted that her brothers can’t fend off these people forever.

If the guys make a living killing people and are still afraid of pissing these men off, it’s a serious testament to the power of money.
