Kins busts out laughing, wheezing and struggling to get the words out. “All it took was some dick to tame the savage beast. A bite? Nah, that’s boring. How about once more, this time with feeling?” He slides down the door frame, red faced and gasping for breath.
“Wait, why’d Kahl shift all of a sudden?” Timmy asks, his bright eyed, cherubic face coming to investigate over Kinsley’s shoulder. “Did it work this time, trying to scare him?”
Hiding my face behind my hands, I wait for the floor to cave under Kahl’s weight and swallow me whole.
“Yep,” Ezra chimes in, following the boy’s lead. “Something popped up alright and scarred him for life.”
“Stooooooopppppppp.” Folding my hands in front of me, I literally beg her.
Her shoulders shake with restrained laughter. “Come on, kid, let’s leave the adults to their boring conversations. Something tells me they have alotto ‘talk’ about now.” Throwing an overly dramatic wink over her shoulder, she leads him downstairs.
“What are you doing?”
Kins tucks his phone back in his pocket, still chuckling and getting to his feet. “You really think I wasn’t about to gloat to Kaid that the two of us shifted before him? It’s like you don’t even know me.”
Stomach fluttering with nerves, I lick my suddenly dry lips. “You haven’t shifted yet though. It might not be that easy.”
Kicking the door shut behind him, he flips the lock. “I’m willing to put in the work. You going to run from me too, love?”
Stepping back, my heart begins sprinting, starting the game already. “Kahl at least gave me a head start. You’ll just cheat.”
A feral smirk overtakes his humor as he slowly stalks closer. “Whenyou’rewaiting at the finish line? Love, I’ll do more than just cheat...” I only make it two steps before I’m lifted off of my feet, Kahl gripping the back of my shirt in his teeth.
Kins wraps one arm around my back, the other already tearing off my shorts. “I’ll play dirty.”
