“Don’t tell Cuán,” I murmured.

He nodded with a wry smile.

“Conrí, you and Kael are going to need every last bit of your self-control,” he said before he paused.“If the fates have bound you to her, you’ll know soon enough.”

The burning desire to harm me was in those maniacal cold eyes of hers.

Kael flexed, stretching out.

Find her.

Watch her.

Destroy— he paused.

Silence.

A long, unsettled silence.

Contain her.

Chapter 18

Nika

There was no jarring buzzer sound, only a knock on the door.

I glanced up from my laptop.

It had been two days since the presentation. The CEO didn’t contact me about my presentation or my subtle hints of favouritism.

Okay, they weren’t subtle hints. But it proved to me that all these rich people were all talk and no action. Their think tanks thought up pretty values to publish on their website and literature. The reality was that profit and dividends always came first.

The world was one big disappointment.

I transferred my laptop to the coffee table and went to check the door.

Careful.

I had barely opened the door when someone pushed it so hard that I went flying back, losing my balance and landed on the floor.

Finley.

“Nika,” he hissed, slamming the door shut behind him.“Do you think you can ignore me?”

You mated with this bastard?

The question barely registered when Finley pulled his leg back and kicked me. I instinctively covered my face when the blow hit me square in the ribs. I gasped as the pain radiated outward.

The air went out of me. I couldn’t get it back.

“You fucking bitch. Do you think you could toss my shit out? Who the fuck do you think you are?”

His hands grabbed my hair and he began to drag me down the hall, leaving me scrambling on my hands and knees behind him.

The pale wooden floor I’d polished last Sunday slid past my palms.

He’s dead. I’m going to bite his fucking dick off.
