“Yeah it is,” he barked then realized what he was doing. He had to remember her situation. “Heiress, I would never hurt you. You act like you don’t want me, then fine. I fell back with no problem. But as soon as I look like I’m moving on, you want to start confessing your feelings and shit and putting a nigga in a tight spot. When things didn’t go your way, you got mad. Now, it’s another nigga. I’m not that nigga. I’m not that nigga to do that back and forth shit so right now, tell me what it is.”
“I told you what it was, but I don’t beg either, Amar. Maybe this isn’t a good time for either one of us.” Heiress ended the call, and Amar clenched his phone in his hand.
He contemplated popping up at her shit, but he didn’t know if that was a good idea. He had to respect boundaries with Heiress. He didn’t want to come across as some savage ass nigga that would get violent with her when things didn’t go his way. He was torn between fighting for her and just letting it go. After thinking about it for a moment, he decided that he would go to her. If he was too late, and she was already gone on her date maybe that would be a sign to just let the shit with Heiress go. Amar was sick of the roller coaster ride.
Amar said his good-byes and headed to Heiress’s apartment. They needed to figure out what it was gon’ be. Like Canyon, he didn’t want to hurt Kirah, but they weren’t in a relationship. There was somebody for everybody, and he felt like Heiress was the one for him. She was finally ready to own it. He couldn’t walk away now. When he pulled up in front of her apartment, he saw that her car was still parked out front. Amar rang her bell and waited for Heiress to open the door. When she did, she let out a small sigh.
“Didn’t I tell you I was about to leave?”
“You did. And if you leave, then I’ll know what it is. I didn’t want you to feel like you could come in and out of my life and have me on some puppet strings. You acted like you wanted usto keep it light, so I tried to accept that. As soon as I did, here you come on some you want me type shit, and I got irritated. All that bullshit aside, you know how I feel. I’ve been showing it to you for the past few months. If you decide it’s not what you want, then this is it for real. No stalking from me. No pressure. No bullshit. I mean it.”
Heiress leaned against the door. It had taken a lot for her to come to grips with the fact that she really wanted Amar in her life. She was pushing past her fears and trying to figure out how to be with someone, and he was acting like he no longer wanted her. Here he was saying that he did want her though, and she was tired of playing. It was hard for her to open her mouth and form the words, but Amar could read her. He moved forward and wrapped his arms around her. Heiress wrapped her arms around him and hugged him back. Even before he came over, she had decided to flake on her date. That’s not where she really wanted to be.
There was no need to fight it and pretend. Heiress wanted to be with Amar. He placed one finger under her chin and pushed up. “You all fly and shit. We might as well not waste it. You hungry?”
Heiress smiled and nodded. “Just so we’re clear. There’s no more you and Kirah, right?”
“Nah, shorty. That’s dead. It’s just me and you.”
CHAPTER 22
Yohana gotoff the elevator and headed for room 906. She wasn’t exactly sure why Canyon told her to come to a hotel. Maybe he knew he couldn’t come to her house because school was out and of course, she couldn’t go to his. She didn’t ask him any questions over the phone. She just closed her real estate book and went to him. It had been three days since they had sex. He had texted her, but they hadn’t spoken. Even though they had communicated in some way, it still made her feel stupid. When his dick wasn’t inside of her, and she wasn’t being mesmerized by his voice, his scent, and his touch, she felt stupid. She felt like a homewrecking mistress. Still, she went to him when he called and asked her to come.
Yohana knocked on the door, and Canyon answered looking handsome as ever dressed in black cargo shorts, a red and black shirt, and red and black J’s. “Hi,” she gave him a small smile and tried to walk past him.
Canyon stopped her and wrapped his arms around her. He held her in the tightest bear hug, and it felt so good to her that she relaxed in his embrace. His hug stopped her from feeling bad that she was meeting a married man at a hotel for a mid-daybooty call. His hug made her feel less like a tramp and more like someone that he just wanted to see and be around.
“I missed you.” He kissed her in the crook of her neck, and she smiled.
“I missed you too.”
He let her go, and she stepped further into the suite. That’s when she noticed the two large suitcases that were in the room. She also noticed two pairs of sneakers lined up in the closet. “You staying here?’ she asked with furrowed brows.
“Yeah. I left. I couldn’t keep staying there. I’m going through with the divorce. There’s no going back. In a few weeks, I’ll be single.”
Yohana was elated, but she still didn’t want to get her hopes up. Cheyenne was still his wife, and they still had history. Canyon peeped how she didn’t say anything. “You good?” he asked with raised brows.
“I am. I just don’t want to get too happy too soon. This is still fresh and new. How do you even know you want to jump into something else right away? Like, what do we do? Date? Work towards a relationship?”
“We do us, babe. You’re all I’ve been thinking about. It felt like I was single for the past six years. I don’t give a damn about that shit. I want to be with you. I want to see your face every day. I want to hear your voice. I want to slide up in that wet ass pussy.”
Yohana giggled, and he wrapped his arms back around her. She looked up at him, and they engaged in a sensual tongue kiss. Canyon pulled back and nuzzled his face into her neck. “You smell good. You got my dick hard.”
“Your dick is always hard. So, what happened? With your wife.”
Canyon stepped back and sat on the arm of the couch. He wanted to tell her that it didn’t matter, but he was old enoughto know that communication was important. He couldn’t build with her and not answer her questions.
“We just weren’t on the same page. I told her that I didn’t want to get her pregnant right away, and she did some shit that made me mad. I just wasn’t there. My head wasn’t in it. I called myself trying, but I was only trying to appease her.”
Yohana walked over to him. She hated for her joy to come from another woman’s pain, but she liked Canyon. There wasn’t much she could do about it. She draped her arms over his shoulders. “So, we can really do this thing, huh?”
He rubbed her ass. “We can.”
“I don’t know if you assumed or what, but I’m not on birth control. We kind of got caught up in the heat of the moment the other night, and you didn’t pull out. If you didn’t want kids with your wife, I doubt you want them with me. So, from now on, we should be careful.”
“I didn’t pull out with you because I didn’t want to. I haven’t known you that long, but I didn’t want kids with Cheyenne because I knew I wasn’t going to stay in that marriage. I just wasn’t sure when it would end. I can’t say where you and I will be a year from now and maybe me not pulling out was irresponsible, but you got me on some other shit. When I’m with you, I lose all common sense and focus. I don’t have kids. I want kids. If you were to be pregnant right now, I wouldn’t be mad.”
Yohana didn’t speak. They were moving fast as hell. On one hand, she was scared. On the other hand, she was enjoying the ride. It might seem crazy to other people, but it felt right to her. “How long do I have with you?” Canyon broke into her thoughts. He lifted her shirt and placed soft kisses on her stomach.
