“Yes, please.” Chugging the last of my lemonade, I get up. “The line is probably going to be insane.”
We say goodbye to Reyna, who heads in the direction of the Skin & Ink booth, eyes darting back and forth—probably checking if Logan is nearby. I’m definitely going to have to make it a point to get the scoop on what’s going on between those two.
The line at the portable toilets makes me groan. As we wait, I scan the crowd, nerves tingling. Ever since Dylan’s call yesterday—when I’m not distracted by Jax or work—I’ve been on high alert.
“You okay?”
“Yeah, just... you know. Keeping an eye out.”
Noia nods in understanding. “Don’t worry. Between Jax, Ryder, and his Marine brothers, you’re covered. Plus, you’ve got me.” She flexes her biceps.
“You’re the bestest friend ever.”
“I know.”
The rest of the day goes by pretty fast. I get so caught up in what I’m doing, the next thing I know the sun is starting to set.
“You ready?” Noia asks as she tucks the last yoga mat into the box. “I’ll walk you over to meet up with Jax.”
“Sounds good. Let’s go.”

I spendthe rest of the day manning the batting cages with Lizzy’s brother Logan, helping kids with their stance and adults get out some much needed aggression.
Tossing a bat into the bin, I look up and see him watching Sasha’s new employee Reyna walking across the fairgrounds, his expression hard.
After seeing his reaction to her at Dunk-A-Hunk, it’s been nagging at me all day what the story is with those two. Now’s my chance to find out.
Leaning against the fence, I cross my arms. “What’s your deal with Reyna?”
Logan’s head whips around in surprise. “Who?”
“Seriously? Don’t give me that shit. I’m talking about the angelic blond who dunked your grumpy ass. Youknow. The one you were just eye-fucking? The way you two were shooting eye daggers at each other, I could’ve sworn you knew her. Talk about sexual fucking tension.”
He rolls his shoulders, grabs a bat and ball, handing them to the next kid in line before turning back to me. “She new in town or what?”
“You could say that. Not only is she Sasha’s new part-time aerial silk instructor, but a little birdie told me she’s gonna be one of the newest members of Lakeside Fire Search and Rescue. So I guess that means if you do get the new Captain’s position, you’d what? Be her new boss?”
The next words out of Logan’s mouth are so low, I almost miss them.“Fuck my life.”
His bitter words make me grin.
“So. What’s the deal with you two?”
Logan rubs the back of his neck and huffs out an exasperated breath. “We kinda hooked up a while back.”
“No shit? When? Where?”
“At some bar in Vancouver. It was about a year ago, I guess? I was winding down after a long day of training, and she was there with some of her friends.”
“So what happened? Did you ditch her or something?”
Picking up a bat, he starts swinging it nervously back and forth. “We hit it off. I invited her back to my hotel and let’s just say it was one crazy night. And no, I didn’t ditch her. She ditched me.”
“Well, shit. Sorry, man.”
“Nothing to be sorry about. It happened. One and done.”
